Although the location of Anteroom may not be 100% ideal (20 minute walk south of the train station, and where you want to be is north of the station), I loved this hotel. It reminded me of Berlin, very vintage looking feel, the lobby also serves as art exhibiton hall. We booked a terrace room which was spacious for Japan... More

I will be staying at Anteroom for the third time next week. The hotel offers an unbelievably good rate for a hotel of this quality in Kyoto - which is otherwise an expensive city. I have always stayed in single rooms and while the room is sure small, it is well designed and meets all my accommodation needs - 1.... More

My partner and I stayed here for one night as part of our 2 weeks in Japan. The location of the hotel is about 2 metro stops from kyoto station, so quite central, although there is nothing around it really. The area is safe though, this is japan after all! I think it took just over 5 minutes to walk... More

It was a wonderful experience during my 4 days staying in Anteroom. I found this hotel in many books and web introduction. The interior design and minimal style draw my attention. I been in Kyoto many times and stayed in various kind of Kyoto hotels. But this hotel really impressed me. Simple, reasonable low profile, quiet, no more, no less.... More

Hotel Anteroom Kyoto is the best hotel to stay in when you are traveling to Kyoto/Nara/Osaka. It is 5minutes away from Kujo Station and 20minutes away from JR Kyoto Station. The area is also surrounded with restaurants that offers different kinds of foods, from Japanese style pizzas, takoyaki, ramen and Korean food. The hotel staff are so accomodating, and very... More

Hotel Anteroom is one of the hip place to stay in historical Kyoto. It’s recently been renovated and is located just over 1 km south of Kyoto station. Getting yourself to and from the station is either a 600 yen taxi ride or a short 15 minute walk. If you’re heading to see the various sites that this incredible place... More

I stayed for the first time at Anteroom a few weeks ago. The main plus is the rooms - they are extremely cute (sort of Scandinavian x Japanese zakka style), good large bathrooms, sufficient storage, opening windows, spotlessly clean etc. The common areas are large, stylish and would be a nice place to work / read etc. The location is... This was my second stay in this hotel and I have only positive feelings. Great location only 5 min walk from subway only one stop from Kyoto station, very quiet neighborhood. I had real pleasure walking to and from the station early morning and evening enjoying autumn air. Single room was bigger than usual japanese hotel room, I had enough... More

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
