This hostel is close to subway and Gion areas. Staff was very friendly. We stayed in the top floor but the room was a little bit smelly. Basement rooms would be worse. Shared bathroom and toilet were clean. Will not stay again.

Positive: - easy to get to and well located for visiting southern Higashiyama and Gion areas. Other areas easily accessible by bus or bike - if you ask for info or help the lady at reception is very friendly and helpful - lots of books and stuff to exchange or take - friendly atmosphere - real kitchen facilities A note... This was a great little one-night stopover for my family and, for the price, we could have easily stayed here longer if there was availability. The room was clean, cosy and large enough and we didn't at all mind making up our own futons. The shared toilet and bathroom facilities were just fine. We didn't use the communal kitchen and... More

I think people need to remember that this is a HOSTEL not a hotel. You're supposed to cook, clean and occupy yourself - imagine a student house. The staff were friendly and really helpful for travel and directions. All of them speak English and there are big maps and helpful tips all around. It's in a great central location and... More

The staff here were nice, the location is pretty decent (although I think the directions from the subway could be much better written), and of course the value is great. There are no beds here, you are given a fold up mattress which you make up yourself but I didn't find this too much of a bother and it's what... More

This is the cutest hotel I ever been! It is like a "home" I always dream about!! It smells like tree and straw inside. There are small stickers everywhere, like "free to take" on the shelf with origami swans and many others. The neighbourhood is very calm and quiet (and beautiful). I expected less for this price.

Peace house is a vey nice hostel. There is a lot of space comparing to the other japanese places. We were sleeping on traditional tatami mats. The staff was helpfull and the kitchen well equipped. Everything was clean and tidy.

Stayed here in late march 2013 for 4 nights and could not fault this place at all. The place is clean, easy to get to and cheap. Staff are helpful, easy going and very accommodating. We had a great time laughing and joking with the staff and other guests and having returned back to the UK I will be recommending... More

This hostel is a joke! I would rather sleep on the streets than stay here. I have travelled extensively and stayed in over 50 hostels, all around the world, and never have I experienced anything like this. We booked a room for two people. The bed was ridiculous. It was a single bed frame, with a wooden bench seat running... More
