One of the best hostel i've stayed in. We got a private room with shared bathroom. The room and the bathroom are very clean. The hostel is conveniently located near the shooping area and restaurants. You can walk going to imperial palace, the manga museum, and gion. Also very near the bus and train station.

Stayed 4 nights and it just wasn't enough. Had the most amazing, friendly, welcoming experience. Has an excellent lounge area downstairs and upstairs where I met the most unique, brilliant people. Extremely helpful for suggesting local attractions and experiences, and frequently holds activities inside or locally. Links with a bar nearby where you're nearly guaranteed an interesting chat with fellow... More

This hostel is the best place if you are looking for a one just at the city centre with a good value of money. It was a very basic hostel, but very clean with comfortable and clean beds. I stayed in dorm with 8 bunk-beds, and I even do not feel like it. There are different choices of showers in... More

very friendly and helpful staff. Very impressed by the super clean toilet. Khaosan kyoto is also strategically located. We could get around to places of interest conveniently. Also not far from the opposite side of the hostel there is a very nice and reasonable coffee shop that serves coffee but you can get tea too. I attached the photo of... More

Great hostel, very clean, helpful staff. Great commonspaces, bathrooms, toilets. Very good beds, shared rooms and private rooms. I've met a lot of great people staying there... a must go if your budget is low but you're looking for a good place.

The rooms were nice, with each bed having it's own curtain so help with privacy. The staff were always very helpful and the hostel was kept clean. The location was great, very close to Kawaramachi station (hostel was very easy to find with good access instructions on the website). Also walk-able distance from Gion district- which was just amazing! The... More

Located near Hankyu line Kawaramachi which connects you to Osaka and close to Kawaramachi-shijo bus station which connects you to many places around Kyoto. Also close to Kamogawa river and Gion district which is a must for Kyoto in my opinion. There are there 24-hr convenient stores around as well so you can grab something for breakfast in case you... This was one of the nicest hostels I've stayed at. It's clean, lots of bathroom facilities and the staff are great! We made a mistake with our booking but they were kind enough to refund 1 night without even asking. They also helped us finding another hotel for the night. Close to all the nice sights and easy to reach... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
