Feels like a Ryokan in it's simplicity. Very comfortable bed, Wood tub. The reception staff were excellent and so helpful. Spoke English well. Delicious granola and yogurt breakfast! So glad we selected this hotel.

This is a wonderful find in Kyoto, combining as it does elements of Japanese style in terms of the polished wooden flooring, tatami flooring in the elevated study area and the cedar bath; along with Western touches in the bed, couch and powerful shower. The hotel is reasonably near to the station (easily walkable with cases), as well as the... More

This hotel was in a great location - within a short walk of Kyoto Station - so it was easy to get around the city. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and we had a very pleasant evening meal in the hotel. The room looked great but it wasn't entirely practical - the sink was in the bedroom corridor... More

We stayed at the hotel for three nights and would definitely recommend staying there - lovely to come back to after a day of sight seeing. The rooms are beautifully simple and very comfortable, especially the beds. The hotel is close to Kyoto Station (no more than 10 minutes by taxi). There is a bus stop and subway station just... I booked the Maisonette room and it was clearly the wrong choice from the moment we walked in. The room is on the ground floor, a short walk from the reception area. The entry way was tiny with a small powder room on the right. Straight ahead are two beds separated by a Japanese screen door. Following a long and... More

This little boutique hotel has an amazing interior design to offer and a great overall experience. The staff is very welcoming and will kindly suggest places to visit and eat during your stay. We stayed in a double room and we loved the big wooden bath in it. Bikes are available which is a great way to visit Kyoto. It... More

The Kanra Hotel is not a large hotel- about 30 rooms- that is a total bonus!! This hotel gave us the taste of Japanese hotel we wanted. We arrived at Kyoto railway station via the Bullet train- that was so much fun and after reading all the signs in the railway found our way to the subway system and used... More

We stayed here for 5 nights during the cherry blossom week and the hotel proved to be a nice quiet oasis away from the madness and hordes that descended upon Kyoto. Room was huge and great, blended Japanese style with modern boutique decor. Breakfast was included and the hotel was great in accommodating my wife's vegetarian needs. The front desk... More

This is an incredible hotel in a good location with great rooms. The staff are outstanding also. Thoroughly recommended. The restaurant looked very good also but we didn't have to eat there. Nice touch to have bikes available to borrow for the day also.

Stayed in feb primarily as the ritz carlton seemed very overpriced at that time... didn't no regret decision. Rooms are spacious (we stayed in a deluxe with tatami tv and sitting area), staff were terrific for duration and the breakfasts (simple choice of western or japanese were very nice). Good Points - privacy of location and local feel of neighbourhood,... More
