5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I have just completed a 2 weeks tour of Japan with my family. We have stayed at various hotels (international chain, ryokan, luxury apartment) during this trip and Kanra Kyoto turned out to be the best choice we have made. Tucked in a nondescript corner of quiet street, the hotel looked small from outside. It is small by all accounts-... More

This hotel really appeals - it's simply attractive and gorgeous. Love the boutique feel and exclusivity. Rooms are spacious and the perfect blend of Japanese tradition and modern aesthetics. Location is not ideal for sightseeing and getting around, so we rented their bikes (complimentary) and used that primarily to get around - turns out to be a fabulous idea as... More

We got here after a crazy day of sightseeing that involved three cities, and hours of transport and this could not have been a better oasis. I loved the design of the hotel (which is why we booked there)-- the lobby, the decor, the rooms-- we stayed in room with the hugest bed I have ever been in (though a... More

Loved this place, wish we stayed here last time we visited Kyoto!!! This is the kind of small independent hotel that ruins you for other hotels. We are US travelers and typically stay in Hiltons because we have accumulated many points and get discounts, etc., so we have become captured, and accustomed to that level of treatment. But then a... We had a very enjoyable stay at the well-located Hotel Kanra. We were very disappointed with our first room selection (the Kaigiroi room), but the staff were very accommodating (at an extremely busy time of year with the hotel in full occupancy) and offered us another choice of room (Superior room) which we much preferred. The split level rooms on... More

I loved the fact that I could walk to Tokyo station (10-15') to catch any bus to all the tourist spots. This is super convenient, and there is also a subway station a minute walk away. Convenience store right next door if needed. The room is HUGE and very comfortable. It happens rarely in hotel room, but the A/C makes... More

Great staff. Great location and easily accessible from Kyoto Station. Nice boutique type hotel. Stayed here 5 nights and would definitely return. We had two level room. Beds were comfy but had to walk downstairs for the bathroom. Be aware of that when booking the larger room. Breakfasts were okay, nothing special. Location and Staff is what makes this place... Hotel Kanra is conveniently located between the Imperial place and Kyoto station in a quiet side street off a main road. It represents the best of minimalist and functional Japanese design. Our family of four were comfortably accommodated in one of their large light rooms where style permeated into every detail--from the toiletry containers, to the cotton kimonos provided in... More

this hotel certainly stands out from the masses. while it is on the expensive side, if you have been travelling round japan and cant stand another night in a shoe box sized room this hotel is definitely worth the extra spend. Rooms are HUGE by anyone's standard. they have done a fantastic job of taking the traditional elements and making... More

Dear all, Just a quick review of this hotel I stayed in for two nights (last is tonight --.--) in the "Actus" room. Big room for Japanese standards, but what I liked a lot the calm street of the hotel and the good quiet mood of the common areas. I stayed in a very exclusive ryokan in Shuzenji few weeks... More
