Found this lovely boutique hotel from fellow travelers at tripadvisor and boy were they right. Great hotel in a nice neighborhood. The staff spoke excellent English and walked us all the way into our cabs when we departed. I'll be back as Arnold would say

Location: close to subway station. But not that close to Kyoto station. The hotel is in a quiet alley with 7-eleven nearby. Room: our superior room is impressive. Nice bathroom and super comfortable bed. We love the decoration. It's modern and chic with a tough of old ryokan. We stayed here for 3 nights in our second trip to Kyoto... More

Had the pleasure to stay at Kanra for three wonderful nights at the end of December 2014 and loved every minute. It's the perfect place to stay when in Kyoto: stunning design that combines the best from Japanese and modern styles, perfect service, super convenient location close to the Kyoto station. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to... More

Nice hotel with Japanese traditional rooms.. Location is convenient too, close to train station and convenient store is just around the corner. Had a bit of disappointment during check in. One of the front desk staffs was "rude".. But overall, it was great

I have just completed a 2 weeks tour of Japan with my family. We have stayed at various hotels (international chain, ryokan, luxury apartment) during this trip and Kanra Kyoto turned out to be the best choice we have made. Tucked in a nondescript corner of quiet street, the hotel looked small from outside. It is small by all accounts-... More

This hotel really appeals - it's simply attractive and gorgeous. Love the boutique feel and exclusivity. Rooms are spacious and the perfect blend of Japanese tradition and modern aesthetics. Location is not ideal for sightseeing and getting around, so we rented their bikes (complimentary) and used that primarily to get around - turns out to be a fabulous idea as... More

We got here after a crazy day of sightseeing that involved three cities, and hours of transport and this could not have been a better oasis. I loved the design of the hotel (which is why we booked there)-- the lobby, the decor, the rooms-- we stayed in room with the hugest bed I have ever been in (though a... More

Loved this place, wish we stayed here last time we visited Kyoto!!! This is the kind of small independent hotel that ruins you for other hotels. We are US travelers and typically stay in Hiltons because we have accumulated many points and get discounts, etc., so we have become captured, and accustomed to that level of treatment. But then a... We had a very enjoyable stay at the well-located Hotel Kanra. We were very disappointed with our first room selection (the Kaigiroi room), but the staff were very accommodating (at an extremely busy time of year with the hotel in full occupancy) and offered us another choice of room (Superior room) which we much preferred. The split level rooms on... More

I loved the fact that I could walk to Tokyo station (10-15') to catch any bus to all the tourist spots. This is super convenient, and there is also a subway station a minute walk away. Convenience store right next door if needed. The room is HUGE and very comfortable. It happens rarely in hotel room, but the A/C makes... More
