We stayed here for 3 nights, our room hasd futons which were comfortable, and our own bathroom, which was worth it. There were much needed washing facilities and Staff were friendly and helpful. We made use of the bike hire, which was a good way of seeing the city.

Pros: - Strategic location: Only 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station from where you can get to anywhere in Kyoto or Japan. Convenience stores are also within few steps. - Trademark Japanese hospitality: Courteous and helpful staff who never minded any questions or requests from the guests. - Trademark Japanese cleanliness: All corners were virtually spotless. Even the bathrooms were not... More

First I wanna say that the location of this place is perfect. Literally 5 minute walk from Kyoto station and 1 minute walk from the nearest bus stop. Also extremely close to several eateries, main plaza, and convenience stores. As for the actual room itself, we got a room with a private bathroom for a low price of $30/per night... More

It was my bestie's first trip to Japan ever although I've been to Kyoto once before. The hostel is very conveniently located near the JR Kyoto main station with good shopping all around. We walked to the hotel by foot with all our heavy luggages and it didn't feel too bad. The only con about the hostel is that it... More

I stayed at Hana Hostel Fukuoka and Osaka so I decided to try out their Kyoto location. It's very convenient since it is about a 10 minute walk from JR Kyoto and there are lots of stores and restaurants nearby. You can also walk the underground passage in case it rains outside, which I did several times during my stay.... More

one of a chain of hostels in Japan - there is a loyalty card and you get a present for every three nights in any of the Hana Hostels. Basic futon on tatami mat, but very comfortable. Kitchen facilities available, but great choices for meals nearby, especially in the area around the railway station.

We enjoyed our stay here, we chose a private Japanese style room, was very nice and comfortable. The place is clean, organized and the showers and facilities are very nice. Very close to the train station and connected to the whole city. We definitely could stay there again.

Very close to JR Kyoto Station and surrounded by a number of convenient shops, restaurants and cafes etc., Hana Hostel is an ideal place for accommodation wherw the rate is affordable. I lived in a bunk bed room for 4 with my friend in the early July- it was very cosy and clean. The reception has been very friendly to... More

If you're on a tight budget like my family, Hana Hostel is a no brainer. This hostel is located just a street after Hotel Station Kyoto, it's diagonally across from Lawson(a convenient store), best of all, it's just 5-7 min walk from Kyoto Station/Bus terminal. The receptionists are pleasant and they're fluent in English. The hostel is well kept, the... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
