The Kizashi is a small hotel with just 8 rooms. It's a modern type ryokan. At the time of booking , it only had 2 suites and so I took them. The entrance is tucked amidst shops and you can miss it if you don't spot the Kiazashi the Suite sign. You walk into a short shopping mall alley to... More

Spent a few nights at Kizashi, and really enjoyed our stay. Location is absolutely perfect, in the middle of the Gion disctrict, just a few minutes walk from Yasaka Shrine. Taxi's didn't always know the place, so was useful to have piece a paper with the location (in Japanese) to show them. The room was very spacious, with a living... More

Kizashi The Suite is a different concept of a traditional hotel. It is much better than expected and over ratios... Having only 8 rooms gives you the idea of care you are going to receive there. The staff is so pleased and kind that they make you feel at home. Although in Kyoto is not easy to find staff English... More

This is one of the finest hotels in Japan. The rooms are spaceous and very well equipped. The location is in one of the most attractive districts of Kyoto, Gion. If I have to think of negatives, then the room is fairly dark and the breakfast mediocre. The service is excellent. Really a top hotel and highly recommended.

Dear friends of Tripadvisor pages! We stayed almost a week in the ``Kizashi-the suite``and did expect a very special "boutique" kind of hotel.`Instead we got a highly overpriced single average size room with a nice `king-size"bed,no window to the outside world (imagine-having to live a day long with artificial lights as in a cage!), a minimum of amenities and a... This small suite hotel is in the middle of Gion, fantastic location walk to everywhere from here. The suites are beautiful fantastic wooden bath great shower. The bedroom has a lovely comfortable bed. There is a sitting area and a traditional tatami mat room with a table and 4 Japanese style chairs. There was also a small sitting room with... More

Staying in Gion

Neighborhood Profile
Gion
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
