Yes, it's in the Lonely Planet, and yes, the concept of a capsule ryokan is original. If you want to experience a capsule hotel it's probably a good choice. If, like me, you chose to book an ensuite you'll find this place too expensive. There isn't anything wrong with it but for 20 $ more you can get a really... More

We had our own room when we stayed at Capsule Ryokann and not the capsule. The room was small, but cleverly desigend - everything we needed was there. The staff was very helpfull and knowledgeable. All in all, really great place.

stayed for 3 nights with my wife, we took the Ryokan Ensuite room. Location was nicely located pretty near to Kyoto Station (around 10 minutes walk) and plenty of convenience mart and restaurants around it. The reception staff was very helpful, they spoke English very well and went through the whole detail of the house rules, and room facility. They... More

I stayed in the capsule room for 3 nights. It was indeed a good choice to stay here. The hotel is about 7-10mins walk away from Kyoto Station. There are many buses around. Plenty of food to choose from. Convenient to travel to different locations from the hotel. They have an information guide prepared for all new guests which I... More

I stayed in one of the Capsules for a week: excellent value for money. Clean, efficient, well-organized, all staff speaks very well English and is very helpful in giving advice. The capsule is tiny but cosy, perfect for single/budget travellers. Perfectly clean amenities: shower, toilet, kitchen. Bear in mind that you have to deal with noise from other capsule guests... One room for four people was a nice change from most of the accommodation we had in Japan. Friendly, helpful staff, Facilities clean and the beds were really comfortable. This was the best accommodation we had during our stay and would definitely return again.

I stayed for 3 nights and used this little hotel to explore Kyoto and Kansai region. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They helped me with a special request during my stay (wheelchair). They also speak english very fluid (not so easy to find in Japan). The rooms and bathrooms are very small but always clean.

We (two people) had a very pleasant stay in Japan, partly thanks to Capsule Ryokan and its staff who helped us a lot with our sightseeing / planning and gave us excellent information about things to see / experience in Kyoto (the Onsen / publich bath was great!). The Ryokan itself was clean and well-organized, the booklet they offered was... More

The Capsule Ryokan is a league of his own, as it provides a room for two that is like a 2-places capsule. The room has just the space for a double bed (with ample storage underneath), a tech-style shower (yes, the shower is in the room!) with lights and multiple water streams, and a small basin. The electronic-wc is in... More

Close to Kyoto station which is great if you are travelling around like we did. Kyoto station offers also plenty of nice restaurants which is great for having so close. Of course, the rooms are super tiny, but very practical and clean - same goes for the shower and toilett. The staff is incredibly friendly and nice, speaks english and... More
