I stayed 5 nights at the Capsule Riokan Kyoto mid-october 2014, the staff was great, it is well located near the Kyoto train station and the room was an excellent value. I highly recommend this place. If travelling solo, the capsule may be an option although I prefered a single room for privacy.

It was a great experience to stay here. It's only a 7 min walk from the train station which is handy for arrival, and also the buses to Nara, the bamboo forest and there various interesting and temple-y areas in Kyoto all leave from the train station. There's a bus stop a couple of mins away that take you to downtown... More

Thought this was good value for the money. We stayed in a twin which had two beds on a meter high container thing. Your bags went in the container and your mattress on top of it. Good for my husband who has back problems and finds sitting on the floor difficult as he needed to do in other traditional ryokans.... More

We stayed in an ensuite room. It's small, sure, but wow have they managed to carefully fit everything you could ever need in to it! The service from everyone is fantastic, they talk you through all the local amenities you might need, offer transport options and suggestions of itineraries too. The Ryokan itself has a communal area with a small... More

Cheap, well-located if you can walk < 10 mins to Kyoto Station, and great staff - thanks guys! Clean, well-equiped, small but has everything we needed. Excellent information. A++ Stayed with my 12 year old son who also loved it. Rooms only given full service every two days, in case that matters to you - did not to us. Nikau... More

The hotel staff are very helpful. They even take the trouble to show you to the room and how to use the different features in the shower. They make an effort to serve travellers well. Each room has a binder containing sightseeing information and provides one day to four day sightseeing plans and recommendations for eating places, including a really... More

This hotel /hostel is great value for money. Service is exceptionally good. Being within walking distance of the main station meant we saved on transport. The English speaking volunteer at the information desk, in the station, showed us where it was on the map, so very easy to find. Also, it was close to public transport for getting around, though... I spent three nights here in a private room with bathroom and thought it was great: very clean, quiet, with a very friendly team and a lot of effort put into the information provided both before and on arrival. The rooms are certainly small so if this is your first stop in Japan it might be a bit of a... More

I stayed here for 2 nights with two other friends: myself in the capsule and the couple in the twin ryokan. Hence I had a pretty good overview of the place. On first impression I was amazed at the cleanliness and warmth of this little Ryokan. The reception was not manned when we arrived however clear instructions were left regarding... More

Expecting tiny room meant we were pleasantly surprised when shown to our room by friendly staff. It was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed: own shower, toilet, air con, and the info provided on buses, sights, and most importantly great local places to eat was much appreciated. It was also quiet at night so slept v well. Would... More
