Stayed here for 6 nights and used it as a base. The ryokan is located within walking distance of Kyoto station, which is very convenient. Staff are friendly and soeaks good english. Overall very happy with our stay.

As stated in the title, the Capsule Ryokan Kyoto was one of the friendliest places we slept while visiting Japan. The location was good and our double room was compact, clean and had all the necessities one could need (plus a little extra :) ). The staff was super friendly and helped us find for example a cosy sento just... More

Was welcomed swiftly at check in and rooms were accorded side by side! Right opposite the hotel was a laundromat which brought great convenience for myself. Rooms were suitable for one to stay in comfort and a little tight for 2. Shower and washroom all into the room. Barely much space to move around except lazing around in bed! Basically... More

This hotel was awesome! We had one of the twin rooms between two of us and there was everything you needed, it was clean comfy, with a good shower and awesome hosts! They give you a full booklet of restaurants and sights to go to. In a perfect place!

The first time I came to Kyoto I stayed at WESTIN MIYAKO KYOTO, it has great views, but I would recomend the capsule ryokan over the westin anytime, anyday because it´s such an amazing place to stay and the staff is super friendly, great location, 5 mins away from kyoto station, great places to eat nearby and a lot of... Le staff est adorable, l'hotel est bien tenu, la cuisine-coin commun est très pratique et les capsules confortables. Si je retourne à Kyoto, je choisirai cet hôtel à nouveau ! The staff is really lovely, the hotel is clean, the cooking-living room is very usefull and the capsuls are comfortables. If I come back in Kyoto, I will book again... More

Got a room with a shower, and the shower is awesome! I know that sounds odd to talk about a shower, but for a budget place, it was so worth it. Located a few blocks away from Kyoto Station and Nishi and Higashi Honganji. Very friendly staff (out of 6 places we stayed in Japan, this is the only one... More

We stayed in the double ensuite room. The room was very clean, neat and had everything we needed. The room was not too spacious but it is good for a several days stay. I arrived really late (outside operating hours) but could easily get to the room and enjoy my stay, shower and check-in the next morning. Seamless experience here!... More

I made reservations, for my students and myself, for both the double rooms and the capsules. Some kids thought they wanted access to larger rooms and private showers but, once we got there, they all wanted the capsules! I definitely recommend Capsule Ryokan Hotel for teachers with students and/or people wanting something different and fun. It's nothing fancy but certainly... More

It is a quick walk from Kyoto station. The private room is perfect for a stay. It has everything you need or go check out extra amenities in the lobby. They put plenty of hooks by the door and plenty of outlets for electronics. There is a nice kitchenette, internet, umbrellas, even free kimono tries. There is a market nearby,... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
