Stayed here for a couple days while I was in Kyoto and fell in love. Apparently, this hotel was designed to be a Western-influenced ryokan. My bed and room were small yet comfortable but what stood out for me was the hospitality of the hotel staff. They even prepared a guidebook consisting of local attractions, places to eat, nearby towns... More

We are a family from age 17-58 and had the private rooms ... For price, location, friendliness and helpfulness this place cannot be bettered - thoroughly recommend. Read the guide book they give you which has advice on everything :) I don't really want to say any more than this but tripadvisor won't let me post this unless I write... More

We had a private room at the Capsule Ryokan in Kyoto, so I can't really speak about the capsule rooms, but our stay was great. The place is really clean, the room isn't fancy but well organized and the staff is super helpful. They gave us plenty of advice, in each room there is a folder with everything you need... More

The place to stay in Kyoto! The staff is very helpful and speaks fluent English, rooms are small but very comfortable. The common area is good for a break and for meeting some interesting people. Capsule ryokan is the perfect basis for visiting Kyoto city and the region.

I was in a suite, not in a capsule. The suite was indeed small but cosy, the price range is definitely not the same as in capsules though (I was looking for something cheaper but this is not to say it's overprized for the level of service). Nice people working in, serious and helpful.

The room was nice and very clean. I had a delay of 42 hours because of a typhoon in Taipei and Capsule Ryokan Kyoto gave me a 25% discount without me even asking for it. They have excellent information about sightseeing in Kyoto. They were very helpful with the process of forwarding my luggage, which was a little bit complicated... More

Not knowing what to expect from the capsules, I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable my three nights were. The capsules themselves are fitted with TVs and a control panel for the temperature/ light/ alarm clock and the communal areas are modern and well furnished. The staff are extremely helpful (one guy spent a good hour going through gig listings... More

We stayed 4 nights at Capsule Ryokan and it was perfect. The ryokan is well located, a 10-min walk from Kyoto station. The staff is very friendly and available. The room was quite small - normal for Japan - but with everything you need, from storage compartments to hair dryer, kettle, etc. There is also washer and dryers available for... More

I've been using the Capsules of Capsule Ryokan Kyoto since 2011 and never had a single thing to complain about it. Where do I start? Let's start with the location. It is located 7 minutes away from Kyoto station. This makes it an ideal location as you'll have easy access to public transport whether you want to go other areas... More

Conveniently located because it's close to the central station. If you don't get the capsules, Rooms are very small and hot. Air conditioning works well but very noisy. There is not a daily cleaning service and the room didn't give a clean impression upon arrival, but the staff is very welcoming and kindly. On top of that they speak a... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
