We spent 3 nights at Keiko's house in Kyoto and we absolutely loved it. If you want to stay in an old Japanese house and sleep on tatami mats, have a traditional Japanese bath, a small garden courtyard, and feel like you are staying in a museum, then this is the place for you. Keiko is very friendly and helpful.... More

We enjoyed Keiko and will recommend it to friends. The authentic olden Japanese home is a perfect departure from cookie cutter hotel rooms and will stay in our memories much longer. The location is excellent and nestled in a cute neighborhood with shops and antique stores and within walking distance to the shopping arcades. We walked everywhere and loved it.... More

Very nice experience: small paper house, Japanese style, with futon. Small cute bathroom, small kitchen. Very kind and helpful host. Close to the center and shops. Bikes are provided for free. It is a bit hard to find so follow the instructions on the website.

Stayed here for 5 nights and because we were the only guests in the house during that time, we had the whole house to ourselves. The house is of a traditional design so you enjoy the tatami and futon experience at a very affordable price. The house is also pretty spacious with enough heaters around in case you are afraid... We stayed in this B & B for 2 nights and Juno B & B for 1 night. Our hostess couldn't have been more helpful, she dropped our bags from one to the other. Then delivered our bags to he Ryokan we had booked for the last night. Both places are very similar , Keiko more central and Juno very... More

My sister, niece and myself stayed here for four nights during October. We had the whole place to ourselves which was amazing. Keiko was very helpful with lots of suggestions for things to do in the neighbourhood, including coffee a couple of doors down. The B&B is well situated, in easy walking distance of the centre of town. This is... More

This was an absolute gem during our visit to Kyoto. In terms of service, it's more like a western B&B or rented apartment than a traditional ryokan (which typically serves meals). However, for those who are simply interested in staying in a traditional Japanese room with tatami floors and futon bedding, this is a wonderful choice! It offers the freedom... More

Echoing what many others have said this is a brilliant place to stay. It is a traditional small 2 storey house with two living rooms downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs (separated by a small hallway). The small bathroom (no shower, Japanese bath) and separate loo are downstairs. It worked perfectly for our family of four, as with no staff on... More

If you want to stay in a reasonably priced place with an authentic Kyoto experience this is the place! The B&B is a traditional Japanese style house. For our family of 4 it was perfect as the adults stayed in one room and the kids stayed in the other (it has 2 bedrooms). If you are tall make sure you... More

B&B Keiko is a authentic old Japanese style house located in a charming neighborhood with small shops. The house has two rooms upstairs with a common seating area, a bathroom and toilet downstairs. The best room is the room nearest the garden. Keiko is an amazing and wonderful host. The service is more than excellent, she gave us really good... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
