We loved the experience to arriving and departing via the boat and the gracious staff warmly welcoming and bidding farewell and the music upon first reaching the central court and pool. Our room was supremely comfortable, and the view of the river was absolutely stunning. To this point, the ryokan was perfect. It is totally isolated, which would have been... More

I want to let any reader know that i am a luxury travel advisor. I visit hotels all over the world but write very few reviews since i only comment on the outstanding and unique properties. This modern ryokan which has low platform beds vs futons meets that criteria. The approach to the hotel by river is simply breathtaking in... More

One of the best places I've ever had the liberty to stay in. Service was impeccable... Rooms and whole region was just simply amazing... The staff - they were out of this world. Never had such great service to the last detail! Absolutely loved the place and can't wait to be back!!!! Love it!!!!

Absolutely incredible retreat from the hustle and bustle of Kyoto. Arrive via a gorgeous boat ride and the staff are there for you at every moment from arrival to departure. Impeccable service. Perfect for a honeymoon or retreat.

A fantastic resort hidden away up river. The approach by hotel launch was magical, the weather was beautiful. Very helpful staff, attentive but not over the top. Joy of joys, no TV. This is a place of calm. Dinner was excellent with well chosen wine to go with each course. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

Hard to imagine that you can feel so far away from the hustle and bustle of Kyoto when you are so close. Just a short boat ride from the center of Arashiyama, Hoshinoya is a wonderful, romantic getaway. Outstanding accommodations, attentive staff and great food make this a stay you will remember. The hot pot breakfast in our room was... More

About 1 year ago my friend and I went to Kyoto in Autumn for maple leafs. The hotel is not in the downtown and even residents here are not easy to reach there.....it's inside the mountain and you need to take the boat to get there. After we contacted the hotel service then a lovely girl rawing a boat to... More

As stated in the resort information card, the boat runs from 8 am to 9 pm. After 9 pm, the resort runs car service. The resort recommended us the service of the MK Taxi and said the MK Taxi knew very well the way to the Boat Landing place of the resort. One night after we finished a one-day tour... More

When I planned our anniversary trip to Japan, the first hotel I searched for and fell in love with was Hoshinoya. Kyoto was our last city and therefore our last experience in Japan. Turns out it didn't meet my expectations although I would recomend it with the following warnings. The hotel is located in the outskirts of the city, in... More
