I echo the comments of the previous posts. This inn is hidden in a wonderful location and is a most comfortable, though not luxurious inn. I was lucky to chance upon the cherry blossom celebrations in the park and nearby streets and it was quite special. I also walked in the park before breakfast and it is really a wonderful... More

My partner and I spent 1 night on our fleeting tour of the Kyoto and Osaka area at this lovely Inn. We decided to make our where there instead of getting a taxi and we wanted the adventure. We got a city bus when we arrived at Kyoto station and headed for Gion. From there we had a wonderful time... More

A friend and I stayed five nights at Kyoto Yoshimizu and couldn't have asked for anything more. We loved every moment of our stay. The location in Maruyama Park was fantastic. You really do feel as if you're miles away, up in a quiet mountain retreat, although you're just a 10 minute walk away from the streets of Gion. I... More

Peaceful and tranquil location. Wholesome, natural breakfast. Comfortable rooms with shared bathrooms. picturesque. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only drawback is that it's easy to get lost finding this place, thankfully the locals are always helpful.

I stayed in yoshimizu in winter for 5 nights. It is a very beautiful location especially walking down through the park to gion each day (about 10mins) although there were homeless people sleeping in the park which was a bit unnerving coming back in the dark by myself. The owner and hosts there are so warm and welcoming. My room... More

We stayed at the Yoshimizu Inn for 5 nights in November, we booked the last available room which was a western room (the only one, I think). We loved the location of the Inn, high up in the park, surrounded by bamboo woods. Our room had windows along two walls and it really felt like sleeping in a tree house.... More

For our first trip to Japan, we really wanted to try a real, typical ryokan, possible immersed in a forest as in a good Detective Conan episode (well, if also with a murder, it would have been great!). Being in a big city was not helping our search but as Kyoto, differently from Tokyo, is surrounded by hills and parks,... More

This was the most disappointing accommodation in three weeks in Japan. We stayed at one amazing (and pricey) ryokan in Kyoto that was a phenomenal experience, as well as at several other hotels and ryokans at or below Yoshimizu's price. Compared to these, Yoshimizu (where we stayed for five nights) felt like a bare-bones room without the ryokan charm. The... More

If you're looking for a traditional Japanese Ryokan experience... you won't find better than Yoshimizu Inn. The house itself is lovely and cosy, and you couldn't wish to meet nicer people than the staff working there. It is also extremely quiet since it is located at the top of the Maruyama Park, away from the noise of the main streets.... More

Very friendly in a great location -- You walk out the front door, take a right, step intp the park and youre standing in front of a shrine. very convenient to the Gion area. Traditional Japanese rooms/setup. WiFi Despite what I read in other reviews, it was not a a bad climb "up the hill". One tip tho: first day... More
