Ichi En Sou was one of the best Inns that I've stayed at, and was one of the highlights to my time in Japan. Everything about this place was excellent. The loccation was an ideal place to explore Gion. However, it is the atmosphere that makes it stand out. It is a wooden house built in the 1920s, which the... More

Great hostel- japanese-style women's room, with futons on the floor, and western-style bunk beds in the mixed-gender room. Mostly, what made this place great was the super-wonderful staff. Friendly, nice people who make sure you know how to get where you're going. I went to dinner with several others from the hostel one night, and it was a wonderful experience... More

A hidden gem with a perfect location just minutes away from the train station, bus stops, and attractions - Gion Corner, Pontocho, and Higashiyama. Yashi and his wife made us feel at home and made extra arrangements for one night as they were running full. There is a cozy common area on the ground floor to chill out after a... More

A 100+ year old house tucked away in an alley in Gion. Friendly and immensely helpful proprietor (Yashi) who knows the city well and maintains a beautiful hostel. Friendly people, close to great restaurants/temples. Highly recommended.

I recently stayed at IchiEnSou for four nights, and I couldn't have asked for much else in a hostel. The owners, Yashi and his wife Rara, were both very personable and outgoing, and truly made me feel welcomed. Yashi also took the group to different restaurants for dinner on two nights, and one of them was a place that none... More

IchiEnSou is a nice little hostel located in Gion area with close proximity to local means of transport (5 min. walk from metro station) with many historical sights around to explore. It is also one of the cleanest hostels I’ve ever been to. IchiEnSou has got almost everything to be exceptional (amongst cheap accommodations & hostels) Nevertheless the owners fail... More

I loved the traditional Japanes style of the female dorm! As we were only three girls sharing there was plenty of room for everyone. The guesthouse is in lovely Gion and in walking distance of many sights. I hardly needed to bother using busses or the metro. Yashi and his friends were really helpful, too. Defenitely a place I'd stay... More

Ichiensou is a nice little guesthouse just ew few metres away from Kyoto's hot spot - Gion. The very convenient location ant the very friendly staff makes this nice place one of the best low budget inns in Kyoto. The owner who speaks very good english can give lots of helpful advice what to see and do. But watch your... More

The IchiEnSou is conveniently located 5 mins away from the metro and close to the river and to some Shrines too. It is nice and clean, however, the host, Yashi didn't make us feel like if we were home at all. In fact he didn't allow us settling in a minute before the check in time and he started cleaning... I believe that we have responsibilities towards our guests to have comfortable stay with us. However, it is sometimes difficult for us to make a guest happy who cause troubles for other people. We start cleaning at 11am everyday, which is our check-out time. And on the day of your check out day, we waited until check-out time before we... More

Yashi was great, nice and clean place with an excellent host. It's in Gion which is a really nice part of Kyoto. Make sure you talk to Yashi for tips and go out on his walks at night!
