We stay here for 5 nights. Good location. 15 mins walking distance to Kyoto Station. It's near to 3 Convenient stores (7 Eleven, Lawson and Family Mart). You can do your laundry. The room are very nice, love the Tatami floor. Toilet and shower room with a bath tub are separated. Very friendly owners, they can speak little English language.... More

the inn was very spacious, with a lift, kyoto free wifi (need to register). We didn't have problems sharing for 4 people as it was just a stop over. Better get your map before going to the hotel as it is quite a distance walking. Taxi ride is around 600 yen. Overall it was a comfortable stay.

We arrived from Osaka and walked up to the hotel. there was a note stating that cleaning was being done with a bell to press for attention. However despite waiting for half an hour, we gave up and went for a walk along the river and had food from a 7eleven. We tried again to get attention after a couple... More

We got a private room and booked through a 3rd party site so I think we personally overpaid but I believe the rates were fair. The gentleman at that front desk was very nice and helpful. The rooms were clean and the location was not bad. Just a 30min walk to the heart of town/the restaurant district. Don't rent bikes... More

This hostel is clean and fairly central. Minutes from the train station as well. They offer bike rentals, laundry and kitchen. There is one shower and one toilet. If you're thinking of a good nights sleep forget it. There aren't matresses on the bed but super thin mats you can feel the wood through. If you sleep on your side... More

As previously mentioned, you need to go to a separate hotel to check in first, so make sure before you leave to get a copy of their access map via their website. It will make things a lot easier. Both hotels were easy to find and Sparkling Dolphin was only a12 min walk from Kyoto station. When we saw our... More

Stayed there for 3 nights fm 26th-28th March. We spend 1 hr going round looking for this place. Reception area was so crammed with the 3 of us with suitcases. Have to remove our shoes and use commmunal slippers which was digusting. The doors swing outwards and it was difficult to carry our luggages whilst holding out the door. Luggage... More

Stayed 3 nights at this hostel. The male owner was not so friendly. Poor electrical wiring in the kitchen which was not informed earlier to us. My wife was scolded by the male owner for using the microwave and water heater at the same time. No water kettle provided in the room by the way. Overall, the room was extremely... More

Stayed at this place last November 14. Is a bad experience for a group of us. The place is rather run-down, lift got foul smell, towel provided for guest was torn badly (worst than those i used to clean the floor at home), owner not friendly at all. On our last day, it was pouring heavily and we got stuck... More

The owners of this Inn were very sweet and helpful. The rooms were fine. The only complaint I have about it was that the stairs up to our rooms were outside, and had a lot of mice droppings on them so you really need to have slippers to put on between the genkan (entry way) and your room. It would... More

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
