Nice hotel, very friendly staff with English a million times better than my Japanese. Lift to all floors. Room was spotless and had everything necessary for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was included in the price, was served 7-10am in the large reception area and was a help yourself buffet with both Western and Japanese food all of which was lovely.... More

One stop from Kyoto station, 5 minute walk and you're there. Via subway, you get quickly to most of the shrines and temples or you just walk downtown within 10 minutes. It's clean, rooms are not too tiny and an okay breakfast is included. Perfect for the price you pay.

Coming from Osaka the hotel is very easy to find. Just one metro stop from Kyoto station to Gojo, take exit one, walk 5 mins and you are there. Location is a big plus, close to cafes, restaurants, shops and walking distance to Kyoto's temples & shrines. Our room (tiny bathroom, hard bed) felt a bit old but except for... More

I actually stayed here on April 2013 but no April Choice on trip advisor's date of stay. I think it's because the more than a year has passed from date I stay therefore the choice is not available. Well,,OK..enough for the intro and let me begin my review. We arrived early in the morning around 7AM from Tokyo by Willer... More

Love the location, with so much to explore be it food or shopping, convenience of bus stops and subway stations just within minutes of walking. Although room is compact, but definitely equipped with all amenities and necessities one could expect from a normal hotel, including pajamas!! Love the eco-choice (where cleaning is not required unless requested) - one can leave... More

The rooms are very small and compact but this is to be expected in Japan. Don't bring large suitcases, there is no place to store them. (It's a business hotel). Good Japanese breakfast available. Very clean, courteous staff, some English. Unless you specify that you don't want your room cleaned you must be out by 10 and can't get back... More

the Karasuma Matsubara bus stop (buses 5, 26). Room size is ok, and with some amenities, but of cheap quality. Wifi in each room, but the connection is very slow and not reliable. Staff speaks English without any problem; we arrived early, and we were allowed to leave our bags in the lobby. Breakfast is included, but is of mediocre... More

It is true that having just one elevator becomes a problem during the morning rush hours especially if your room is on the lower non-smoking floors. We were booked in a non-smoking room but luckily were given the top, 13th, floor room so the lift was not an issue for us. However, if you are sensitive to smoke like us,... More

I stayed one night during the maple season last December. The check-in time was strictly 4pm, and check-out time was strictly 10am, need to pay extra and notify them prior. No excuses. I arrived the hotel around 2:30pm, even the room was ready we couldn't check-in. So we left our luggage at the lobby, checked in late that night around... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
