My partner and I stayed here initially because the all of the minshuku in the area were booked out very early due to the busy New Year season, and it was in a great location at an excellent price. While it was not as up-to-date as other hotels and the rooms are on the small side even for Japan, it... More

We have a spacious double room during our stay. It's much more bigger than he other chained budget hotel Toyoku Inn. Breakfast is good and I really appreciated there are choices of pillows for in house guests. Friendly reception staff but beware the hotel will close for cleaning in the afternoon. Clean environment just like the grade A hotels in... More

The hotels is very well located. It is close to Kyoto station and to the subway. It is also next to a cry beautiful and authentic neighborhood. I had stayed only one night there due to problems checking in where I have originally booked. The staff are nice and pleasant. It is fairly clean. But as mentioned in another review... More

Our first impressions of the Super Hotel Karasumagojo were all to do with the size of the room. Compactness initially is overwhelming, but once you arrange your travel stuff around the two quite large beds and work out how to operate in a small space it works well. The person in charge is truly delightful and does everything to make... More

Don't even THINK of staying here. The rooms are unbelievably depressing -- incredibly small and stuffy and dingy. There are paper signs attached to everything. One non-transparent window that doesn't open. My sister, who is very tactful, called her room a dump. The bed literally feels like cement with a sheet of cardboard on top. Seriously, I would cancel my travel... More

This is a cheap, practical business hotel so as long as you don't expect too much, it is fine. The rooms and bathrooms are very small but it is clean, and it is well located next to a subway station, or about 20 minutes walk from the main Kyoto station. The buffet breakfast is basic but good enough. As it... More

After a week of conference at a normal huge hotel, we moved to the centre if the city to a more affordable hotel. Super Hotel is interesting, you can choose types of pillows, there are stacks of pajamas to use and they reward you for environmental friendly acts like bringing our iwn toothbrush. Rooms are small as expected, bathroom is... More

We stayed at three different Super Hotels during our time in Japan, and all were clean, comfortable, and the staff were willing to help you in any way they could. In all hotels there was at least one staff member who spoke good English, but even if they spoke limited English, they always did their best to help. Included breakfast... More

We booked Super Hotel Kyoto in Gojo through their website and it was a breeze. They did not even ask for any deposit. Check-in was also a breeze. We expected the room to be small, as it is in almost all hotels in Japan. But we were surprised that it wasn't that small as we still had space for our... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
