Location was very convenient with an entrance to the train station only around 50 metres away. We had a twin room which felt spacious after a staying in a double room in Tokyo for four nights prior. We arrived on New Year's Day and were given free sake on arrival in a square shaped lacquer ware cup which we were... More

We chose this hotel for its close proximity to public transportation and its central location in Kyoto. The staff was very friendly and the location is good, but the room could use a bit of an update. Our bathroom was infested with fruit flies and the room felt a bit run down. In light of the fact that we went... More

Located not too far from anywhere, but not particularly near anywhere either, not a bad hotel but definitely with a budget feel. I stayed in a single room, with a single bed, and the room was pretty small. The bathroom, whilst functional, was also small, with one small main towel and a hand towel only (which was a step down... It's not the fanciest hotel on earth (it's far from it) but the location is good, the rooms are quite big, and the beds are comfy. The staff is OK (asked them a few questions, had my answers, no more no less).

If arriving from Kyoto Station, hop onto the Kyoto Subway Karasuma Line and get off at Gojo station. The hotel is conveniently located next to Exit No. 2, but I recommend Exit No. 6 especially if you are wheeling luggage; about a half of a city block away from hotel. Exit No. 2 has is all stairs with no escalator... More

The room was small but clean. The main problem was the TV -- the sound was so low it was almost inaudible. You can walk to the train station, and a subway stop is nearby. And, like other hotels we stayed at, it has vending machines that also have beer.

We stayed in this excellent small hotel for 6 nights in the middle of a 21 day tour of Japan. The room was a good size with sufficient wardrobe storage for guests on a longer tour. Comfortable chairs to relax in after a hard day of sightseeing were an appreciated feature often absent in other hotels. Everything was spotlessly clean... More

This hotel is more or less a step up from the basics. Rooms are cleaned daily which is nice and each has its own bathroom and free wifi. There is a public mini onsen in the hotel which is nice and clean. The hotel is steps away from the subway and one stop from the Kyoto station so getting around... More

Stayed for 3 nights with my mum, booked the triple just for more space for similar price to similar hotels. Cons - this is further than I expected from Kyoto station, it was a solid 25 minutes with luggage and an elderly parent. Bus or subway would be needed for daily outings, in which case, better to live farther out... More

We booked in weeks in advance for two nights. They were booked out on the night we arrived in Japan but I emailed them to ask if they had any vacancies. They replied that they didn't have any and that if they did have any cancelations that they would advertise them on a booking site and that they were not... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
