Our 3 night stay was mostly a good experience. Here are some considerations: Location: 2 min walk to Ishibei-koji, 2 min walk to south gate of Yasaka Shrine, 3 min walk to Kodaiji, 20 min walk to Kiyomizy-dera, with quaint streets and shops all the way. Hotel: 20 rooms, modern, functional, somewhat sterile. Japanese rooms a modern take on traditional... More

Kyoto is a beautiful city and if you want to enjoy the tradition of the old capital of Japan, I highly recommend this hotel. The location is excellent, in the Gion district, and only a short walk from downtown. The staff at the hotel were wonderful- always wanting to assist to make our time in Kyoto memorable.

Family of five just spend two nights at Maifukan. The location is unbeatable. If I am in Kyoto again I will stay there again. The hotel is so clean. We had family accommodation for family of 5. It is consider very roomy compared to other hotels or ryokans in Japan. The staff is very helpful. They make all our dining... More

I love the area this hotel is located. Kiyomizu-dera, Yasaka-jinja, Kodai-ji and many other historic places are within walking distance. I really enjoyed stroll after dinner and breakfast through the alleys, especially Ishibe-koji. The staffs were helpful. They recommended a Tofu-specialized restaurant and I really enjoyed the meal.

There is nothing to not like about this place- clean rooms, excellent service, walking distance to trains and Gion, fast Wifi... the list goes on. It was a very memorable and pleasant stay at Gion Maifukan. We felt so at home and well rested. The service is really impeccable. The friendly staff gave us very detailed introduction to Kyoto and... Cannot beat the location in Gion District. Nice strong internet, which is more than I can say for most hotels during our Japan/Seoul trip. Service was excellent. Even if they could not speak English, which almost all Japanese cannot, they are so helpful. Always tried to help us out. Clean and spacious rooms.

Excellent hotel in a very nice area, staff were great and very helpful. Gave up directions on how to get around many times and made reservations at a restaurant for us. Room was clean and comfortable.

We got the japanese and western room hotels for our stay at Maifukan. It was very spacious for the four of us. The staff in the hotel were really polite and service was amazingly good. will recommend it to people who are looking for a traditional stay in kyoto!

Not the most traditional ryokan, but it gives you a good flavor of it. The location, cleanliness, coziness will make your experience unforgettable. Our room was spacious and clean. The bathroom is a real Japanese experience.

This small hotel in the Gion area of Kyoto is ideally situated for exploring the sights and is on a quiet street in one of the best neighborhoods in the city. We stayed in the Western style room which was very comfortable and had all the amenities we required, including a refrigerator. What really makes this hotel stand out, however,... More
