On our honeymoon trip to Japan we wanted to experience the traditional Japanese room style so we booked one night at Gion Maifukan. When we left this morning we regret we only booked one night here. The staff are the gem of this hotel! They were extremely friendly and helpful. They even took a photo of us upon arrival and... More

It is well located close to Gion. Stuff is very useful and kind. But I think is very expensive compared to others accommodation like this. Perfect cleaning like almost Japan. Safe neighborhood. I recommend you to take a taxi if you to go to the Train Station.

Gion Maifukan is an excellent ryokan for visiting Kyoto. It has a great location on a beautiful street in Gion, many sights are in a walking distance. But the biggest advantage of the hotel is extremely helpful staff that was doing everything possible to make our stay more pleasant. They have very nice maps of the area for different occassions... We recently stayed in Kyoto which was our last stop in Japan. We stayed in a traditional room which was beautiful and really made us feel more immersed in the culture. Not to mention being a little bit off the Main Street and more surrounded by older buildings and shops. Most wonderful of all was the staff. To call them... More

The perfect location in Kyoto- near temples and shrines and antique houses and fabulous restaurants and geikos (!) - and the nicest possible staff! We had booked a Japanese style room but when it became obvious that my back wouldn't be comfortable, they gave us a lovely room with beds and chairs. Everything was attractive and immaculate. The staff also... More

We stayed 3 nights in the Japanese style room. The staff were extremely nice and super efficient. The rooms very clean and new and very comfortable. There was ample space and everything was well thought out. Plus an AMAZING central Gion location.

From the moment we arrived, eleven of us, we were greeted with smiles and service. Our rooms were traditional (although I believe they do have western style ones) and the futons were packed up each day and laid out again each night. Slippers were provided and it was fun to follow the Japanese practice of taking your shoes of on... More

This was a great place to stop for our three days in Kyoto. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful, the room (Japanese) was immaculate and comfortable (always find the Japanese toilets works of art - the one at the Maifukan looked ready for take-off!) and the area is absolutely stunning with photo opportunities around every corner. Well... More

Gion Maifukan is a gem of a ryokan located in the most interesting area of Kyoto. If you are coming to Kyoto to experience the history of Japan, to visit temples of great architectural magnificence and to stay in traditional accommodation, then this ryokan and the Gion area are a must. to step outside the hotel onto cobbles streets and... We stayed at this extremely modern Ryokan for 5 nights. This was the best hotel that we stayed at during our time in Japan, and I would look forward to staying here in the future. My boyfriend and I stayed in a Japanese style room. The room was very large, included an entryway, separate toilet, shower/bath and sink area and... More
