We really appreciated the location of this ryokan. We were literally steps away from the main strip of Gion, which was just simply breathtaking during cherry blossom season. There is nothing bad to say about this ryokan, other than the service could be friendlier (but this is relative to Japanese hospitality in general). When we arrived at the ryokan, the... More

Lovely property, very friendly staff, two huge and delicious Japanese meals, relaxing in-room onsens, nice rooms, and a great location! My favorite ryokan experience in Japan and truly a wonderful place to get a feel for this type of accomodation.

We stayed in this hotel for one night during our visit to Kyoto last week at the cherry blossom season. The hotel in located right next to Gion and transportation is super convenient and a number of famous temples nearby, including Kiyomizu Temple. The staffs are super attentive. As we arrived 20 mins after the dinner time, they still kept... More

This was one of the last place my friend and I stayed on our trip- and it was wonderful. The service was fantastic- the women working there were so helpful. Fabulous location close to temples, trains parks and the Gion district. Breakfast was amazing- you have to have the traditional Japanese delicious. Loved it. Would absolutely stay here again,

This ryokan was about 15min ride by taxi after getting off the Shinkansen. From here, all the famous temples are handily located. There is a bike rental shop nearby which will allow you to see much more in one day. Food was amazing, soon we realised having such meals at a restaurant would have costed us half$ what we paid... Our taxi driver took us straight to Sakanoue (I think about a 15min cab ride from Kyoto station). Don't knock on the door underneath the sign. Walk up to the next open doorway and you'll find Sakanoue. (The poor woman who lives underneath the sign was polite but we felt so bad for disturbing her unnecessarily.) From the moment we... More

We spent one night in this Ryokan. The location is very good in the old Kyoto / Gion area Where you can enjoy the charm of traditional Japan. The ryokan is great, food valuable and staff nice. Some issues in English communication which can create some difficulties when it is time to discuss food and interactions. One small other negative... More

Wow! 3 night in a Roykan with 2 kids (aged 8 and 10) - and the kids would have happily stayed for longer. Cost was 12000 yen (£70 ish) per person per night B&B. Breakfast was delicious (served to start between 7 and 9 in your own private room) - we sampled western and Japanese. Dinner was amazing on the... More

We stayed here for 1 night with our two children. We wanted to stay in a traditional ryokan for the experience and didn't have great expectations about comfort. The Inn is very charming. The rooms are quite large and the separate bathroom was of a good size. The shower room had a wooden bathtub but we didn't use it as... More

This inn is Japanese traditional style is simple but perfect. Lovely welcome and very comfortable. We had the Japanese breakfast in the room which was very interesting but set me up for the day. The futon beds are lovely and cosy. Location is perfect.
