We went to Kyoto for 3 days and decided beforehand to stay in a ryokan. Kamokawa-Kan was recommended by a friend. It is difficult to decide on a ryokan as web entries are not like high end hotels. So we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. We were not disappointed. The location is perfect. Its just off the... More

Out of all the places I have stayed in Kyoto, this just might be my favorite. The proximity to Pontocho, one of my favorite areas of Kyoto, can not be beat. It also isn't very far from Gion (maybe a 15 min walk), Nishiki Market (maybe a 10 min walk), and the train station isn't far either. There was some... More

We have stayed there twice already. The rooms are very spacious and the location is great as you are right accross the river from Gion and Pontocho. It is also good value compared to other Ryokans, which tend to be astronomically priced especially during cherry blossom season! We had food in our room one the nights and it was delicious... More

I liked the place. The rooms are large, and the people there are quite good at English if you compare to other places. The public baths are also nice and clean. It's very close to walk from Kamogawakan to Nishiki market, and it's also close to the subway, so it's easy to get to many of the other attractions.

This place is not recommended if you are looking for authentic ryokan. It's hotel with a minor hint of ryokan. You will find more authentic ryokans in Higashiyama-ku (areas from Yasaka shrine, leading up to Kiyomizu-dera). The only plus side for this hotel is that it's not too far from a main shopping street and Nishiki market. But it's far... More

This is a nice ryokan, super good location, close to a subway stop and easy walking distance to the covered markets and the romantic Gion area. The rooms are big and the service is excellent (a little cool maybe but otherwise very good).

This ryokan is in the category of "traditional ryokans", recognised by Japan's goverment. A ryokan is a classical Japanese hotel with futons on the floor and typical furniture (low tables, etc..). Pros: - It could not be more centrical. It is surrounded by shops, restaurants, 2 metro stations, 1 bus station, and just 1 minute walking from the famous Pochonto... More

At first when I booked this ryokan I thought it would be a bit far from Kyoto main train station but the location was great. It was really easy to get to from the JR station. It's close to the intercity train station and we were right on the river. We had a really nice view from our ryokan of... More
