We stayed here our first evening in Kyoto (we booked a different place each evening to better experience the atmosphere of the city). And we had never stayed in a ryokan before. The staff was extremely helpful showing us around the premises, including the garden, dining room, and baths. We dined with a guest in a private dining room and... More

We had a delightful stay at Izuyasu. We note, however, that there are some misperceptions about the facilities. First, our room did have its own ensuite half bath--that is, a toilet and sink. The "bathrooms" that people refer to are the shower and onsen (hot tub, sort of) rooms, which aren't private, but that wasn't a problem--we chose to bathe... More

I went to Kyoto for the history and a lot of local color. Ryokan Izuyasu anchored all that experience for me! The smell and feel of the tatami, and the minimalist, quiet setting helped a lot in making me enjoy thinking back to the full day of adventure I had. The hot bath downstairs was a welcome comfort after a... More

The ryokan is immaculately presented, beautiful and serene, it was a perfect end to our holiday in Japan. It is located very close to Kyoto Station, within walking distance. The staff were very welcoming, the owners were always on hand if we had any queries and the young lady studying Japanese originally from the Midlands was very kind to us.... More

The ryokan's location is within reasonable walking distance with suitcases from Kyoto train station. We took a taxi however as we had done a lot of walking and were promptly met by two young staff members, who spoke very good english, as we were dropped off. Checkin was quick with a green tea offered and then we were shown to... More

This is a superb place to stay. The rooms are simple (obviously) but very comfortable, and the staff are very pleasant, especially the young lady from England who was an exchange student studying Japanese, and was charm personified! We opted for the inclusive evening meal which was very tasty, and beautifully presented. The baths are very nice, and the small... More

We spent a week here as the third week of a trip to Japan to celebrate my 70th birthday. It was the highlight of the trip and has given me very special memories of a country I have been fascinated by since childhood, but had never visited before. It felt as if we had been welcomed into a traditional Japanese... More

We spent 2 wonderful days in this lovely small ryokan where every detail is looked after. The owner of the ryokan, also the cook is already the 7th generation running it and is helped by his wife and mother. We had just arrived from Paris and so were ready for a real hot bath Japanese style.....In a long cotton yukata... More

The Ryokan exudes beautiful, authentic traditional Japanese Charm and is located an easy 10min flat walk from Kyoto Station & has very friendly, helpful staff. We were greeted with a cup of Cherry Blossom Tea and a sugary sweet before being shown to our room (ZUI). The dinner was a superb culinary delight watching the chef prepare our 7 courses... More

My wife and I spent a night here in late March and had a fabulous stay. The room itself was very well appointed with a separate dining room and a small porch/seating area looking on to a garden. The beds were extremely comfortable, staff friendly, hotel close to the station and there are restaurants within walking distance if you don't... More
