We spent a week here as the third week of a trip to Japan to celebrate my 70th birthday. It was the highlight of the trip and has given me very special memories of a country I have been fascinated by since childhood, but had never visited before. It felt as if we had been welcomed into a traditional Japanese... More

We spent 2 wonderful days in this lovely small ryokan where every detail is looked after. The owner of the ryokan, also the cook is already the 7th generation running it and is helped by his wife and mother. We had just arrived from Paris and so were ready for a real hot bath Japanese style.....In a long cotton yukata... More

The Ryokan exudes beautiful, authentic traditional Japanese Charm and is located an easy 10min flat walk from Kyoto Station & has very friendly, helpful staff. We were greeted with a cup of Cherry Blossom Tea and a sugary sweet before being shown to our room (ZUI). The dinner was a superb culinary delight watching the chef prepare our 7 courses... More

My wife and I spent a night here in late March and had a fabulous stay. The room itself was very well appointed with a separate dining room and a small porch/seating area looking on to a garden. The beds were extremely comfortable, staff friendly, hotel close to the station and there are restaurants within walking distance if you don't... More

My stay at Ryokan Izuyasu was amazing. The staff was unbelievably gracious and kind, the facilities tranquil and elegant, and the traditional community bath was an complete luxury. After spending 10 days touring Japan, once we checked in to Izuyasu we didn't leave the facility until we had to check out. But the best part of the night was the... More

Located conveniently close to Kyoto main station, this traditional (with all mod-cons) ryokan is surely as good as they get. My son & I spent a week here recently as a base for exploring towns on the Shinkansen line from Tokyo to Hiroshima. The owners and staff could not have made us feel more welcome. Delicious breakfasts and individual onset-like... More

This was our second ryokan experience in Japan and the priciest and worst. While the atmosphere was peaceful and quiet, our room certainly lacked amenities that are conducive to a traveler. The room was large and almost zen-like, though water-stained and deteriorating in parts. The bedding was comfortable. But the room lacked conveniences such as a hot-pot or a mini-fridge.... More

We stayed one night in this traditional ryokan, this was one of the many highlights of visiting Japan, quite magical! Very small and intimate but really just perfect in every way, it was everything and more than we expected. It is family run business and has been in existence for several generations. The owner and his mother were both so... More
