Hotel comfortable, clean, comfortable. Whether to stay a few nights a great choice, I do not have any claims. Suggest friends were a group of 30 people, and everything was fine .And my daughter liked.

I was comfortable in a single room here. It was warm and clean, and generally comparable with other 3* places I have stayed in. A good shower and a very deep bath. Rooms are small, but they are everywhere in Japan cities. We didn't like the look of the restaurant, so went out for breakfast. Lots of places to eat... More

Stayed for one night and managed to book 3 triple rooms for my group of 8 people. The rooms are huge, 40 sqm, with 3 single beds and clean. Had a good sleep. We paid a very reasonable price for the triple rooms, unlike what was mentioned by the other reviewers, It could be that I made a reservation early,... More

According to my brother "there is nothing to smile about here." It's fine if you are on a budget and it's Japan so of course the room will be clean. The hotel is just dated and the common areas look run down. We only stayed for one night and then moved to another hotel a few minutes away since we... More

we were staying in this hotel for 3 nights and the room was clean abd nice. but for this price (91000 yen) the room was too small, compared to our previous more luxury hotels in tokyo. the personal was very friendly abd tge hotel us very central located nect to a bus spot and and a subway station. from here,... This is a solid choice for a hotel as long as you’re aware of what is: It’s in the class of hotels that primarily cater to Japanese businessmen. That’s why there are no closets to speak of and there’s a work station in each room. Businessmen check in, put their suit(s) on a hanger, do any necessary work from the... More

Prices are expensive in Japan for us poor Australians. At around $200 Australian nightly , I guess you can't expect too much. It was adequate . Midway between two railway stations, a 500 meter walk to either, one of which is on the JR line. Clean , quiet, smoke free yet one of the smallest rooms I've ever stayed in... More

I stayed in this hotel for seven night. This hotel only provides basic needs which a hotel can give. My room is small but it is ok as I won't stay there whole day. The toilet is a little bit smelly which is quite a surprise to me. The most disappointing thing is the wifi signal is very poor at... More

This hotel had everything we needed, it was clean, the staff was courteous, the rooms (we had a double twin) were not large but we weren't in the room much, the bathrooms were clean and up to date with full bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body and face soap as well as room deodorizer. Our room had a small refrigerator as... More

My daughter and I arrived at the Smile Hotel for a 5 day stay in Kyoto. I was more than a little alarmed at the size of the room. We asked if we could upgrade to a larger room, but was told that the hotel was sold out for that night, but that we could be accommodated for the remaining... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
