I would like to give this Hotel a higher rating - it certainly warrants it in terms of comfort, fixtures and fittings and location. There is no denying it is a lovely hotel and impossible to beat in terms of proximity to Transport and shopping. Unfortunately it was also responsible for our only 'not so great ' experience on our... More

Very good hotel, that makes you feel in awe of its dimensions but with very high standards. If u are a tourist travelling around Japan, you will also appreciate its positioning in the context of Kyoto JR Station (quick access to Shinkansen, subway and a lot of bus lines). Only disappointment was their request to pay a charge of 60,000... More

Modern hotel with excellent facilities and spacious, clean rooms. Fast, free internet available if travelling with a computer. Staff attentive, courteous and spoke good English. Nice spread and variety of eateries but perhaps a little pricey for what was on offer. Good location within Kyoto Station mall complex which is architecturally interesting and also has a large selection of restaurants... More

We have just stayed 5 days at the Hotel Granvia and have had a great stay Its based in the very large Kyoto station, which is a great location. We had the bullet train, local trains, and city buses depo on our doorstep, as well as the 20 something restaurants and cafes based in the station, and the shopping mall,... More

Stayed here for 5 nights in late December 2008 as a family of 4 with two teenage boys, before spending 1 week in Tokyo and then 1 week in Niseko skiiing. Loved the location, so convenient for transport, especially if using a JR pass as Kyoto Station is just below the hotel. Good base to go to Hiroshima, Osaka, Himeji... More

My husband and I spent two nights in Granvia during the Christmas Holidays. Firstly, arriving in Kyoto from Osaka after an 11hr flight from the US and not having to look for a taxi/bus to get you to your hotel is great. The check-in process was seamless. The room was larger than what I expected and very well appointed. Our... More

My wife and I stayed 4 nights in GranVia Kyoto and loved it. First of all its central location and unique immersion into Kyoto Train Station vicinity made our time there to be very memorable. Our room was a standard one with windows looking into the city and it was pretty big. Being squeezed in European hotels, it was refreshing.... More

A very clean hotel with nice large rooms and heated toilet seats! Staff very friendly and efficient, and spoke English, which was a plus. All the usual amenities provided and kept well stocked. The Hotel Granvia in Kyoto is conveniently located within the Kyoto station complex, so particularly great for those arriving by Shinkansen. The bus station is out the... More

We think we were upgraded! We arrived early at Hotel Granvia so we checked in, left our bags and wandered off into Kyoto. Check in was super efficient, many desks and staff to guide you through the process. The hotel is literally above Kyoto station which makes it very convenient for getting around Kyoto as you have all the bus,... More

Nice hotel, the rooms are quite spacious, and bathrooms are bigger than some I have stayed in i.e. not the cubicle type. Very convenient as its above the Kyoto train station. Also well located as in front of the hotel is the bus station which is the most convenient way of getting around the city. The only poblem we had... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
