Granvia Kyoto is in the main train station building so it is easy to get around the city as the station serves as a transport hub. Also it is easy to get to Nara, Kobe, Osaka etc for day trips. The hotel itself has large rooms (for Japan), good breakfast and very friendly staff. The concierge were very helpful. There... More

Excellent location. I spent 3 nights with my family and it was a pleasant stay. Good and spacious room, great breakfast. The hotel is placed just at Kyoto station (bus, subway, shinkansen...). Plenty of choices around: stores, restaurants... Very good choice

Where this is situated helps it win over ALL the other hotels. You walk OFF the main train station straight to the escalator to the entrance of the hotel. It is also supremely well situated for "The Shops". - Retail Therapy is but a few minutes away. It is. BIG Hotel, so don't expect the staff to acknowledge you "... More

Rarely do I give out 1-stars/circles, but the front desk personnel were way out of line and I found their sense of customer service to be completely lacking, to the point of harassment and condescension. Why anyone would want to stay here, I don't know. It's not like they hide their attitude well. This opinion is solidified by my interaction... More

We love Kyoto and Hotel Granvia Kyoto is very well located to explore the many world heritage sites of this wonderful city, particularly as most people use the train and bus system. The hotel is next to Kyoto station and the bus interchange and our room for four people had plenty of space (by Japanese standards) and was comfortable. We... More

This hotel is massive. I imagined a large hotel sitting on top of a station but little did I know that stations in Japan were like small cities in size and therefore the hotel was subsequently huge. Prepare to get lost walking from the main Kyoto station to this hotel but it would be worth it when you find it.... More

We spent 4 nights at this hotel as a part of tour of Japan and chose it for a combination of a good deal and a convenient location as we were using it as a base to go out and about. Wrt the location, being a part of the impressive Kyoto station complex it delivered for us on location. We... More

Arriving at Kyoto main station and not have to leave the station building. How ideal is this for tourists but also business travelers. In the unique and modern station building a modern well organized hotel and no noice at all from the trains, whenever I stay at Kyoto, this is the place to stay. Its not cheap, however the rooms... I stayed in Hotel Granvia in June 2015 for 5 nights. The location was perfect to explore the city and surrounding area. Buses, trains, metro, shinkansens all stop right there. It's easy and fast to get anywhere from Kyoto Station. Kyoto Station is a piece of modern architectural art. Hotel itself is new and stylish, customer service is great, breakfast was very good, rooms... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
