Quad rooms are rare in Japan & i don't know why this quad room is not listed on Granvia's website (only triple family room listed) but luckily I wrote to them & they responded very quickly too. It's called "Non-smoking Family room with four single beds (Quadruple occupancy) 62sqm" I was expecting a triple room + an extra bed but... More

Not a fancy hotel but you cannot beat the location. JR train station, subway and bus stops are all at the door step. We didn't pay for the room with a better view because we are out sight seeing everyday but we did take the advice and ask for a room at higher floors and away from the train station... More

A very nice hotel right over Kyoto Train station, which is a stop for the Shinkansen. Room was spacious and nicely appointed. Mini-bar prices were very reasonable, which is unheard of in US hotels. Rooms were spotless and customer service was exceptional. They do charge for the pool and gym, but this is unfortunately common in upper tier hotels in... More

Our visit in Kyoto was very interessting. We stayed there only two days. We had a very nice view from our hotel and the inhouse restaurants were very good. Only negative point was our bathroom. For our taste it was too small . Overall rating we were satisfied.

Stayed at the Hotel Granvia in Kyoto for an overnight business trip. Chose this location for its convenience as it is right on Kyoto station complex. It is a very nice and modern hotel and reasonably spacious for Japan standards. Being part of the Kyoto station complex, there are many shops in the area. We had dinner at the attached... More

We booked our room through Kaligo.com and got a great room that was spacious and clean. The staff were extremely polite like all Japanese people we came across and we were particularly impressed with features such as heated mirrors to prevent fogging of the mirror from steam. We stayed over Christmas so we were also given a small box of... More

We really love staying in this hotel. The location is perfect, right inside the Kyoto Station. JR office is right below this building, make it easy to book train tickets. Isetan dept store with many restaurants on the high floors is just across the hotel. So perfect. The hotel itself is quite large with beautiful lobby. The room size is... More

What's not to like, great location, comfortable and well appointed room, the convenience of having the train station, shinkansen, supermarket and food joints right at our door step.... Staff were extremely polite and helpful, luggage forwarding to Tokyo was arranged without any fuss.... We had a high floor room facing the shinkasen tracks, nice memory of waking up and seeing... We stayed for a couple of nights at a Ryokan in Kyoto, which was fantastic. We loved the traditional Japanese experience, and all that it entailed. But I wasn't sure my back could take too many nights of sleeping on a hard futon on the floor! So our travel agent booked the Hotel Granvia for a couple of nights. We... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
