Nice spot near the (in the) railway station! So If you look for this it could not better. The check in was good and like all over Japan the staff was so friendly. Rooms are a bit old and can be renovate... WiFi was good and no complains.. So take this one only for location.

Great location with the JR station, shops, restaurants and the ISETAN department store right by the hotel. The staff is friendly and hospitable. My biggest disappointment is there is an additional fee for using the gym or swimming pool. Only green tea and water is free in the room, coffee is extra charge.

Hotel Granvia has a very convenient location because it's just next to the train station and it's well connected by public transportation. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, it has a lot of amenities which is great. The breakfast is delicious with a huge variety. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Recommended.

This hotel is in a great location, connected to the JR train station that also has an Isetan Department store attached, and a number of restaurants and shopping areas. However, I found it too busy for what I like. A lot of people check in/out, a lot more people go to the cafe on its lobby floor (I presume locals... More

On the last leg of our Japan holiday, we chose the Granvia Kyoto for the convenience of being near the JR station. This hotel is right in the station and we were so surprised to find our room undisturbed by the trains downstairs. We were above the 11th floor so the view was pretty good, my kids loved to see... Room is very big by Japan standard. Clean and very comfortable. Train and bus station are located just below the hotel, making this hotel as a perfect base to explore Kyoto. Very recommended for family traveller.

So convenient since it is connected to the Kyoto Shinkansen station, which connects to most of the major train and subway lines. Lots of shopping and dining places in the station so you can do a lot when other family members need to rest at the hotel. Beautiful and spacious room, big bathroom for a Japanese hotel, and all the... More

We stayed for three days. The hotel has the best beds I have ever slept in. The breakfast buffé was excellent and good enough for a high class five star hotel. It is situated in the same building as the railway station but the hotel is very quiet and calm. Since the subway also has it's central station in the... More

You can't get a better location than this hotel. Its built right at the main Kyoto train station. Staff were very helpful with all our needs (not that we had many). We were greeted politely and check in was fast and efficient. Breakfast daily in the buffet was plentiful with all the usual selections of both Western and Asian foods.... More

Overall, we enjoyed staying at this hotel. It's modern and clean. Our room had nice toiletries, so I didn't feel the need to unpack our own, which was nice. If you are travelling by train, which you probably are, the hotel is right above the train station. There were a couple of things that really annoyed me though...1) the gym... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
