The location is very good and convenient its 3 minutes from the railway station and 15 min from the main attraction street. There is a hop on hop off bus which is also near the hotel The rooms are really small but we managed It's a 3 star inexpensive hotel so it's a good value for money.

Plus: very good location, decent room standard Minus: price quite high, our friend got told wrong price when booking, second friend was overcharged for the room and had to complain to get agreed rate. In the morning we asked about luggage sending service which was confirmed, but when we wanted to send at 6pm they told us we should have... More

Excellent location! 1min walk from Kyoto train station, eateries & shops! Staff are very friendly. Hotel room and bathroom are very clean however the room was very small. Perfect for overnight stay. You can only open one suitcase on the floor. "High speed" internet is very poor, drops out of wifi every so often. No laundry service- 10 min walk... More

We chose this hotel because it was close to the station and bus depot. Being our first hotel in Japan we found the room to be a little small but the bed was comfortable even though the pillows were a little strange, make sure you sleep on them the right way up! The room had a fridge, tea/coffee making facilities... More

I booked the room quite ahead of my check-in time, as I know that April is a super peak season in Kyoto because of cherry blossom. Even so, for the size of the room, it was quite pricey. But we have no other choice, as other hotels in the same area was even more expensive. Stayed here for two nights.... More

The location is the only positive about this hotel. The rooms were way too small (not even enough room for our luggage) and they were very musty. There was mould spores growing in the bathroom and under the paint on the walls. I found it very difficult to breathe of a morning after sleeping in the room. The breakfast was... More

Stayed there for 3 nights on a business trip to Kyoto. Rooms are very small, and takes some time to get used to it. if you have a large suitcase it will be a struggle to manouvre around it in the room. It was a battle to maintain the room temperature. Location is good, around 10 minutes walk from the... More

Stayed with my family, the location is fantastic for access to Kyoto Station. We lucked out getting a larger room with standard small Japanese bathroom. Comfortable beds, nice and warm and surprising quiet despite it's location. Other rooms were much smaller and pokey. Downside was the dismal breakfast of cold Western food (bacon and eggs) with very little variety. We... More

Positives: clean and tidy, very quiet despite being so close to the station, room size was surprisingly large for of a station hotel in Japan (though still small in global terms, no wardrobe in our room). We booked 2 twin rooms, one for our kids and one for ourselves, their room was distinctively more spacious than ours (if you get... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
