My guidebook listed this hotel as in central Kyoto – true. The main problem is that there is not much to see or do in central Kyoto. It is directly opposite the Imperial Palace and gardens, but frankly, I have seen much better gardens than these (try Takamatsu) and the palace is not highly recommended as place to visit. It's... Although it is in central Kyoto and far from the southern and northern attractions, it is right across from the Imperial Palace and the rooms are reasonable size (although with some street noise). Would stay again.

Great location across street from Imperial Palace in Kyoto, and walking distance to two different subway stops, not hard to get to the hotel from Kyoto Station (main train station). Hotel rooms are about average sized for large cities in Japan and therefore small (ours was about 18 square meters). Very clean, nice bathrooms. Quiet. Bed mattresses are quite hard,... More

Stayed here for three nights in Kyoto for some sightseeing, after coming from a traditional Japanese ryokan near Kyoto Station beforehand. Rooms were very...average. Nothing to write home about. Rooms were small and plain, but at least clean. Hotel is located right next to the Imperial Palace grounds, but that's about all it's near. Located in the middle of the... More

Unfortunately a nice few nights were spoilt by too many mishaps towards the end of the stay. In spite of having booked a room with breakfast included, we were charged extra for it. Would not accept our Visa card for payment despite having booked with the card and insisted we walk 20 minutes out of our way to withdraw the... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and it is just across the Imperial Palace. Hotel staffs are nice and speak English. Hotel is clean and small just like most hotels in Japan. Wi-fi is available throughout the hotel. It is a 10 to 12 minutes walk to the nearest train station Marutamachi which is 5 km from the city center.... More

Stayed here for a meeting. The room was very clean, and large compared to our hotel in Tokyo. Bathroom was small but adequate with good amenities except hair dryer. Shower water pressure was amazing! breakfast was very good, both western and Japanese. The staff was very helpful with excellent service. We were originally given a smoking room by mistake and... This hotel is nicer and has bigger rooms than average Japanese hotels. The lobby area is painfully outdated though. I like to stay here when I'm going to KBS hall because its a nice hotel and directly next to KBS hall. This is my favorite Kyoto hotel but I usually can't book it because if there is an event at... We recently stayed two nights in Kyoto. I found a great deal on Agoda.com for Kyoto Garden Palace Hotel. The hotel is 10 minutes from the Marutamachi Station and directly up Karasuma Street. While the hotel is outside of Central Kyoto, our number one must see tour was the Imperial Palace. GP is located just outside the gates of the... More

My experience with this hotel is limited to a one night stay in October 2012, but the experience was ok. Most hotels in Kyoto were fully booked this night so this hotel was in a different location than the ones I am used to. The location is beautiful right next to the imperial palace, but being about half way up... More
