I recently stayed at this hotel as my first stop in Japan. The room is small for a solo traveler but in a really nice and quiet residential neighborhood. The staff really go out of their way to help me with Yamato carrier service. There is a vending machine on my floor which is not your average American vending machine. Grab a cold drink before combatting the scorching heat outside in July. The imperial garden which is now only a public park is right across the street, and there is a shrine next door whose mascot is a wild boar. It's supposed to protect people from back and foot pain. Walk to subway is pleasant if it's not scorching outside. I walked by several other hotels in this area that are now permanently closed. The price here is great.

We came across this hotel since we wanted to stay close to the Imperial Palace which was one of the main sites we had on our to do list for Kyoto, it's literally across the street. However, if you are more interested in the Gion part of Kyoto, this will be too far away unless you do not mind paying for a taxi. The hotel is rather unassuming, nothing really stands out about it which in itself is a plus, it simply depends on what you are expecting from your hotel stay. We appreciated the efficiency of the staff and how quiet it was. Rooms feel a bit old and are quite small including the beds, at least the one we were assigned. Mind you, we booked at the last minute and Kyoto was rather full so there may be bigger room types. However, we only stayed in our room to sleep and, again, this is a very quiet hotel even when full so this is appreciate to rest after a day of long walks in Kyoto. Breakfast has both Japanese and Western options which will ensure you are ok to start off a day of exploring.

Stayed a total of six nights hotel booked by travel agent in Sydney, requested a three star, which hotel is rated as but could pass as a four star. Took the breakfast option when checked in 1250 yen per person well worth it, option of Japanese or Western breakfast, brought to your table when ready on a tray, help yourself to drinks. Staff very welcoming, always ready to provide you with directions and maps, would book tours when requested. Ten minute walk Marutamachi subway station, directly opposite Kyoto Imperial Palace which was worth the visit, comfortable walk to Nijo Castle. Ten minute walk to family mart and McDonald's. Our room was spacious complete with double bed, sofa, medium size flat screen TV, fridge, electric jug and two varieties of green tea. Bathroom small but functional, all toiletries provided including razor, hair brush toothbrush. Room serviced daily, option to have bedding changed or not daily. Retractable clothes line over bath if you need to rinse clothes. Definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

The Hotel rooms were very comfortable and a good size as well. All lights and AC operable from a bedside control unit. Breakfast consisted of a choice of Japanese or European and a smaller european choice. Like most breakfast at hotels, help yourself to tea, coffee and juice. The hotel is very clean and the staff were very attentive. The location is ok, around a 10 minute walk from the nearest tube station and en route, you can find French, Irish and Japanese fayre. Tried them all and not disappointed once. Once you get to grips with your location, it wasn't too bad at all. Would I stay here again, yes I would. Its a quiet hotel and that suited us just fine.

Beautiful hotel in a convenient location (across the street from the Imperial Palace as well as being within walking distance of shops and restaurants). The hotel staff was wonderful. We would definitely stay here again.

I really liked this hotel. Staff was super polite and gentle, the hotel is beautiful and clean, it even has some vending machines inside, which is great so you don't have to go outside to buy some beverages. Best breakfast I had in JP. The continental and the Japanese one. The location is good, but you have to walk some blocks to get to the subway. It's in front of one of the Imperial Palace's entries. It's in a residential area so you can see people living their lives while walking on the streets around. It was a good experience, I really enjoyed it and recommend it. If I ever get to return to Kyoto, I would certainly stay in this hotel.

Nice room, fairly nice view, no problems. However, the breakfast was really disappointing. Considering how much money we paid to stay here, it was way too small and the food and drink on offer was seriously limited. No green tea! We’re in Kyoto! Plus, the cups for tea were so small I couldn’t have a decent cup of tea. The salad had tinned corn in it etc. Lovely garden view in the restaurant, but they should offer a buffet style considering the price. I left feeling hungry, cheated and disappointed. A shame really as the hotel itself is quite nice and I’d recommend it other than the rubbish meal.

Because of disabilities,I requested a barrier-free room to share with my granddaughter for a conference, and we got a very large room. Service was excellent, even when the employees didn't understand much English. They were kind, patient, and eager to help. I saw no one smoking within the hotel the entire week we were there. Beds were clean and very comfortable. It is located right across from the beautiful Imperial Palace site. Lots of temples and restaurants within walking distance.
