I'm not sure what to think or write about the Hotel Monterey Kobe. It's a funny little hotel in many ways. I'm not knocking it, it's just a little unusual! First off if I was staying here in Germany or Spain, I'd be raving about its Old World charm - but in Japan that old world charm is on the... More

The hotel is within the City and is walking distance to restaurants, shopping centers, onsen and other beautiful spots in Kobe! As you ride in the elevator, you feel like entering into a time capsule due to its not-so-ordinary "floor-indicator" at the ground floor. Staff are very good. Wifi is not good.

Our small tour group arrived very late at night due to long lines at Kansai Airport for customs and immigration (2 hours). Hotel staff met our bus and carted most of our luggage uphill on the side street too narrow for our bus. The room was adequate and clean. The wifi worked seamlessly. The buffet breakfast was ample and included... More

The hotel was very easy to find, right next to Ikuta Shrine a simple stroll away from Sannomiya station. Solid breakfest (japanese/western), good enough wifi, polite staff and regular good quality rooms (quite spacious rooms for japan)

Rating: 3.7 stars. Old World, New World: both styles offer appeal, and each attracts followers according to their fancies. Come to Hotel Monterey Kobe for the former. The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was plenty clean and comfortable, and was slightly larger than expected. Internet speed was acceptable. Two small negatives: the elevators were a little slow...in keeping... More

This hotel tries to present itself as an old-fashioned dated French abode but instead looks more like a dunk cavern that emits strong mold-and-cigar scents, giving one a drift that it is a trip to a haunted chateau of yore. THE UPSIDE: 1. The location Is central and close to everything, bus and train stations, shopping malls, bars and restaurants,... More

We stayed at the Monterey Kobe for 2 nights in July 2014. There is very little to recommend this hotel. Clearly targeting the discount wedding market, the building has been designed as some kind of faux Spanish castle, interpreted in this case as meaning dark, dank and clammy. Service was dreadful. The receptionist did not even turn around from her... More

Stayed two nights in Spring 2014, and found the hotel staff to be most helpful and willing to solve problems if they arose. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Kobe and convenient to all the major shops and night life – which bustles just outside the hotel. Had a room facing inner courtyard so did not have... Surprisingly spatious room for this category of hotels. Absolutely a good value if you are not dependent on 4 stars and up. Walking distance to entertainment area in Kobe. Will absolutely consider next time we plan to visit Kobe.
