Unlike the South Asian Subcontinent, English is not well understood in most of the cities in China.This is also very much applicable for Kunming. But surprisingly, staffs of this hotel understand and communicate English very well! They also serve fine western break fast. We chose the Camelia because it was the only foreigner oriented hotel in Kunming when my partner went ten years ago. We chose a cheaper double room across the courtyard for 120rmb-- the room was a bit small, but pretty clean despite old carpet and fixtures. Hot water works very well but it take a few minutes to warm up.... more

Stayed in hotel part, not youth hostel, for one night and served purpose of good value budget hotel whilst staying in Kunming for the night. It's not international standard but then neither are the prices, and overall we were pleased with our stay. Would recommend for those trying to save a little money from the large chains. more
