being a 5 star hotel in a well recognised chain, this hotel was as expected. Rooms were large, - we paid extra for the river view, which we had, but the view was not as beautiful as expected- not on the edge of the river and windows were dirty. Breakfast was also typical of a luxury chain - only buffet... More

This is a fabulous, fairly large hotel with lots of amenities including a huge buffet breakfast catering to Asian, European, and American palates, as well as a separate dining room for dinner with mainly Chinese specialties, a lovely spa that offered great massages and both indoor and outdoor pools as well as a relaxing lobby area where drinks and lunches... OK, an easy place to pick, 5 star and all, but three really nice touches that need recognition: 1) The morning tai chi instructor with the river and Hills for a backdrop 2) The Maoi costumed woman who welcomes you so warmly in the lobby 3) the lobby bar pianist, a delight and accomplished professional. Great experience. Great hotel. Delightful... More

I booked two horizon suite river view rooms, intended for 4 adults and 2 children for our stay around the Chinese New Year, so at the peak season. On arrival, I was pleased we received one upgrade to a horizon suite, which made the most difference in a way. The suite size is literally double that of standard and we... More

I guess still the best choice here. Some suggestions for the staff: - use a more reliable tour agency (we booked tickets for a night show in yangshuo and it was the worst service ever) - the buffet is very crowded and probably not the best food ever.

Everything was good, the pool, the bed, the service etc. A bit far away from Guilin central if that's where you want to be. Restaurant, coffee, drinks expensive. Fantastic restaurant over the road where three of us ate for the price of a coffee at the hotel. I think its called something like Lin something. Try it.

We stayed at the Shangri-La whilst touring China with Viking River Cruises. I thought this hotel was great. The room was lovely, very clean & the bed was comfortable. The lobby area was very attractive. We ate in the restaurant one evening (buffet) & it was very nice, with a good selection of dishes. Likewise, the buffet breakfast was very... More

I have stayed in a number of Shangri-La hotels and this is on the "lower" end of the spectrum as far as other Shangri-La properties. Located about 45 minutes from the Guilin airport, a taxi TO the airport is about 130 RMB (~$21 USD) but I am not sure what the taxi fee is FROM the airport as I was... More

Stayed here for 2 nights to visit the area around Guilin. Hotel is super clean and comfortable. One of the best breakfast buffets during our trip with very unique items featured along with the expected western fare. Loved the ladies doing Tai Chi in the morning that you can view from your room or the dining room.

We stayed here for only one night on our "Imperial Jewels of China Trip" and we were not expecting such a beautiful place. The grounds, rooms , and food was amazing. There was a great selection of food at the buffet stations for both the dinner and at breakfast in the morning. Walking around the grounds at night is a... More
