We stayed for six nights in a Club Horizon River Room. These rooms have beautiful views of the river and the characteristic karst mountains. Horizon rooms give access to the Horizon Club Lounge for breakfast, all day coffee, tea and soft drinks and evening cocktails with a buffet of small canapés and snacks. Especially when the hotel has a large... More

Being the only known and trustworthy international brand that is relatively new in Guilin (built in 2010), it didn't take me too long to book the Shangri-La Guilin. The other choice would be the Sheraton, more central but a lot older. All other hotels seem to be local brands which might be nice but such is still up for exploration.... More

Only stayed one night - but would loved to have stayed another night - we used the pool and with the heat was a real bonus - we used the free transfer service to Guilin town - this was excellent they dropped us off at 7.00 and picked us up at 9.45 and this was complimentary - we were the... More

It was nice to spend our only night in this Hotel in Guilin: old style, comfortable, with a great breakfast. Do not have time to enjoy its public spaces, pool etc.. but the room was complete with good amenities. The staff was super helpful and the experience was favourable.

Just stayed one night with my family. Beautiful lobby and great setting. We had 3 rooms on the 4th floor overlooking the river and outdoor pool. The rooms were pleasant enough but looked a little tired and scruffy; surprising for what seems to be a relatively new hotel. Avoid the dinner buffet at all costs. Hugely overpriced for what was... Situated out of the main city area but overlooking the river and within walking distance of a market along the river, this is a very beautiful hotel with large rooms. Every morning two figures in the garden can be seen dressed in white doing Tai-Chi, a very restful sight. The International Buffet Restaurant has an amazing display of food.

the rooms are fairly generic, but spacious, very clean. the beds are comfortable and the pillows make you want to try to steal them to bring home. good water pressure in the shower, good hot water. there was some special when i booked so got the club level room for a marginal extra price, happy hour 5-7 with wine, beer,... Great hotel and lobby, mostly great service but poor restaurants. One like a canteen, one a bar and the Cantonese restaurant inadequate but did try hard. Poor but polite service, lovely food (but they forgot half our order). Comfortable bedrooms and we were offered a suite for a small upgrade. Wonderful.

Last time I was in Guilin (6 years+) I heard this hotel was being built. Now that it's been built, it is probably the best place in town. The problem is the rest are Mainland/local brands, so there is really no comparison. Despite Guilin being one of the most well-known and most-visited cities in China, the town really has limited... Okay, let's get Guilin out of the way first. Not the best city in China to visit, but useful as a base for Yangshuo and beyond. If you do need to stay in the city, however, you really can't do better than the Shangri-La. All the usual Shangri-La trimmings, but just a shame that occupancy appears to be so low.... More
