3 nights in the 'old'business district in Guangzhou ( there is a much swankier district ' new ' a bit further down the road) . lobby and surroundings very impressive but the standard rooms need a lot of TLC ! try to book a renovated room ( only saw the pictures but they look much better) . Rooms are very... more

I was a little a taken aback by some of the recent reviews on the hotel before my trip. After check in I was given an old outdated room. I immediately complained to the manager, and was given a new updated room on the 11th floor which was much nicer. The hotel atmosphere is still top notch and the breakfasts... more

I have stayed at the Garden Hotel 6 times in the last four years. The staff has always been excellent and the public areas are very good. If you book the cheapest rate or are unlucky you get an older room with two very hard single beds. The newer rooms are very good. When booking I would ask if you... more

The hotel reception is amazing but thats about it. My room had two single beds. I asked to be changed and was advised that the hotel was fully booked. I am 6 ft 4 so sleeping was exceptionally difficult in a small bed. The room was also very basic with old CRT television and mouldy bathroom. There are cheaper hotels... more

I have stayed at this hotel many, many times over several years. In the beginning the hotel was quite good, excellent really for chinese standards. However, on each visit lately the hotel has got worse & worse. The rooms are small & worn, even though they claim to be recently renovated. The prices have gone up year after year &... more

Some say this is the best hotel in town. Maybe that was true back in the 1980s. The rooms are small, the interior decorating is boring, the location is not convenient, and the breakfast is nothing spectacular. I will not stay in this hotel again. Pay less elsewhere and be happier. more

Central location to a lot of places in town. With a Bank of China branch in the lobby, cash withdrawal is convenient for foreign issued cards. High end luxury boutiques just across the road. The Japanese restuarant in the hotel is of international standard and is affordable. Very huge lobby, easy check in-out. Stayed in a suite with a living... more

At 28 nights at the hotel on this stay, I had ample time to "experience" most aspects of the hotel. This is my 3rd stay here and likely my last. OK, the hotel is big, huge lobby, nice gardens, and some nice staff, but it needs work. The rooms are in desparate need of complete renovations. Guangzhou has several recently... more

The hotel is okay in terms of amenities. The location is very good with good restaurants within walking distance. There is even a Starbucks right next door-very important for my breakfast fix. The restaurants in the hotel is very expensive for the quality. more

They gave me a free upgrade for a suite and I still escaped after one night. This is not a brand name chain hotel. It is huge (the building but not the rooms) but lacking both personatility and comfort. The gym is for a charge, what was important for me. There is a Holiday Inn just across the road what... more
