Good location as it is right in the heart of the city. This is probably best of what Irkutsk has to offer for £50 a night. We stayed in an older style room which was in desperate need of rennovation, we were aware of this but the alternative for a refurbished room was an extra £50, well over our budget.... more

This bed and breakfast is located at the center of Irkutsk, a walking distance to shops, restaurants and parks. Location is good to those who don't mind city sound; but otherwise you may be able to request for a room that does not face the street. Rooms are okay by 3-star Russian hotel standards. We found staff to be friendly... more

If I were permitted to swear in a review, I would regarding this establishment. Good things first - the rooms were clean, if poky; the food was good, if expensive. BUT. We were on honeymoon and "upgraded" our trip to the Hotel Angara. Hah. They took our passports for immigration registration (standard in Russian hotels). When they returned them to... more

Angara is the central hotel in Irkutsk. The exterior is great. It is shabby inside, but clean, and the key lady on my floor was friendly and helpful once she knew I wasn't a spy. Watch your step into the bathroom, and you can hit your head on a rotating shower ceiling fan if you are over 2 meters tall.... more

The old communist spirit still prevails this big mid-town hotel. There is notable distrust, evident with the "first you pay!" statements most staff are able to utter. Indeed the staff are an unhappy and unfriendly bunch that dishes out bad service. The standard rooms are abysmal and should be completely avoided. The standard-renovated rooms are fine. The buffet breakfast is... more

Another bog-standard 3-star Russian hotel, which would be 1-star elsewhere. There was nothing especially bad nor especially good about this hotel. We were forced to eat elsewhere, as all the restaurants and counters were screaming really bad music or hideous kareoke, but you can't beat its central location. more

Visiting Irkutsk during the coldest weather in Siberia for 30 years meant that I was limited in the amount of time I could spend out of doors. 24 hours spent at the Angara waiting for the Baikal express train west were mostly spent in the hotel. The entrance is modern and well appointed with a lobby cafe, shops, a slot... more

Your standard Russian 3 Star, not great but clean & comfortable. However the location was great, in the centre of town overlooking a nice city square & walking distance to museums & markets. Our 1st night was spent in a standard room, uncomfortable SGl beds, worn carpet, ripped curtains. Our bathroom flooded the 1st morning & after repeated complaints and... more
