We stayed at the victory hotel two separate nights (before/after lake baikal). The interior felt a little cheap, but the room was clean and modern (we booked a renovated room for 160$ instead of 140$). When we entered the room for the first time the toilet flushes all the time. This is a new hotel well situated in a quiet part of central Irkutsk. Our room was not large but was clean and comfortable (with standard iffy Russian plumbing). Staff spoke reasonable English and were helpful. Restaurant (24 hours) served good breakfasts quickly and good dinners. However the fire escape was incomplete (no stairs down from door on our floor).... more
