Previously having stayed at a 4 star in St Petersburg that was a little disappointing I upped to a 5 star and this was definitely better. Location is a little far out with a max ten minute walk to the nearest metro though buses run from across the street. The main tourist area around the Winter Palace is about 4... More

+ nice personnel, nice lobby and convinient location - too soft beds and small pillows, two matresses on a king-size bed which have a hole between them - bad room conditioning - breakfast was very poor (no fresh fruits, no hot fresh pastries, bad coffee, and everything is not so delicious that you'd expect from first class hotel) - you... Convenient location, great selection and quality of breakfast, very comfortable bed (beds in St Petersburg's hotels tend to be too soft, but this one is very good). Swimming pool is small, but when we used it we were the only ones in there so it was good. There is also a gym. Very satisfied!

This recently built hotel is not in the most attractive part of the city but is convenient for all forms of public transport. The nearest Metro is about 10 minutes walk, buses pass the door (the hotel staff are helpful about how to use these) and a mainline atation is opposite the Metro. Staff have generally good English and are... More

Hotel is not super-central, but with the metro or even by taxi it is no problem to get to the main attractions. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, very nice and had all amenities you need. It was very clean and the breakfast buffet was fantastic! Will definitely use this hotel when I go back... More

Stayed at the hotel in August 2014. The hotel is situatd in a quiet district about 20 minutes walk from the main city arteria Nevsky prospect. We stayed in standard double room on the 7th floor. The room had a spacious balcony with impressive view to the neighbourhood. We were lucky to get room with a city view, as many... More

I would recommend this hotel to the Winter traveller to St Petersburg. It is in a quiet area off the main 'drag' so does necessitate a walk to the centre of the city but the quietness of the area is worth the walk. The rooms, albeit they were rather bare and lacked some colour, were clean, well serviced each day... More

Dear Brookfield99, Thank you for choosing Grand Hotel Emerald and recommendation to stay in our hotel during the winter period! Winter is really a nice time to visit Saint-Petersburg: beautiful snowy suburbs (Tsarskoe Selo, Peterhof, etc.), no queues in the museums, world-famous ballet and opera performances in Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky theatres and a lot of other interesting things to do... We stayed here for five nights. We had really only one complaint, and I guess it could be circumvented by choosing a room on the street, rather than facing the atrium. This is of course contrary to what one might expect, but they had a private function using the open atrium and the sound from the band and the mc... More

Pros: good sized room and bathroom, very clean, nice linen and toiletries. Cons: no iron/ironing board, no electric kettle, and a 10 minute walk to nearest metro station and the train station for Moscow trains. But the biggest downside is the structure of the rooms around an enclosed atrium: if the hotel is hosting a party there when you are... More

I at the Emerald for work. Excellent service, very helpful personnell, and very good restaurant inside, where we had a superb (for us foreigners!) russuan meal based on fish. The hotel is a bit old (it is old, and it feels old), with bathtub and not just showers in the rooms, fine furniture but looking very old (...not "antique"). But,... More
