With 9 people we spend 4 days at Johns place, all women, all keen on cosiness, comfort and tidiness, all curious, all loving to sit and chat together at a large table with easy chairs before and after we discovered amazing st Petersburg. From the moment we stepped in we felt at home. We didn't have to bother about doing... More

We had a great stay with John. Like being in a home away from home. Chilled and flexible with all the amenities you'd need and a host willing to help you navigate St P. Close to lots of attractions and easy walking to most. Restaurants close by if you need them and only a short distance to the river with... More

We did not stay at the Academy Garden on Vassilievski Island but rather at another B & B also owned by John Nicolson. Unfortunately we did not get to meet John, as he was in Croatia, but his correspondence with us prior to our arrival in Russia was impeccable! Meanwhile, his trusty manager, Olga, made our stay very pleasant and... More

I stayed at the Academy Garden for a few weeks and loved everything about my stay there. Firstly there is tons of light coming in the rooms which helps in a city like St Petersburg. It was also perfectly located, only a 1 minute walk from the Neva bank, with stunning views of the city. The atmosphere on Vassilievski Island... More

I was in St. Petersburg from Dec. 5 to 10, my stay at this guesthouse was a wonderful experience: quite, great comfort, inviting kitchen where I could prepare my breakfast and have coffeee and tea at any time, romantic view over the Academy garden, interesting surroundings, round the corner the walk through the bridge over the Neva river from the... St. Petersburg is big, really big, so trying to find accommodations in the "heart of the city" is somewhat like trying to find the best parking spot at Costco. No matter where you park you're still going to be walking ... a lot. The apartment has that cosy clutter of home so making yourself feel at home takes about 15... More

Beautiful B&B in a quiet area on Vasilevsky Island. If you always wanted to stay in one of these majestic old St Petersburg buildings, you will love it. large bright kitchen (lounge) and nicely decorated rooms, clean and comfortable, newly renovated.. It probably works best if the owner is around himself, he is great in organising and everything worked perfectly.... More

I came to Russia on two business trips in 2011 and stayed both times at the Academy Garden. The interior is stunning--beautiful interior design, high ceilings, spacious rooms, modern baths, a lounge for relaxation and a comfortable dining area. The owner is gracious and helpful, a Brit fluent in Russian who wrote a very interesting book on St. Petersburg several... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a small guesthouse opposite the garden of the Academy of Arts, in one of St Petersburg’s most central spots. Our street is one of the quietest in the city. Our house stands immediately opposite the garden of the Academy of Arts on Vasilievsky Island. In summer when you look out of our windows, you will see a dense wall of greenery, in winter a delicate tracery of trunks, branches, and colums. We offer some of the most spacious and beautiful accommodation in St Petersburg. ... more   less
