Not quite the old style soviet hotel but many of the features, poor service, however the hotel has presence. It has a style that is unique and worth a night. Two would be pushing it. More

You certainly know you are in Russia, bizarre hotel but great to experience Moscow, typical Soviet style service, not many smiles, lots of smoke, feels very odd at times, rooms were ok, bed was rather grand with four posts etc! There is a seedy feeling to the hotel, strange things were going on in rooms near mine, also there is... More

The Sovetskiy was better than I expected- it's quiet grand, really. Huge ceilings and an impressive staircase in the lobby, high ceilings throughout, mirrors everywhere, and the rooms are quiet comfortable. Good beds and nice dark curtains. The bathroom had a nice big tub. The breakfast is good too. The style of the hotel is what is really great- they've... More

This is a clean conveniently located hotel in Moscow with sensible prices. It is a remnant from the past as far as the decor goes - red carpets, a plethora of paintings on every landing, grand chandeliers even in rooms. It lacks, however, basic utilities eg mini fridge in rooms. It needs a revamping - furniture are nice looking antiques... More

After a monster 3 hrs drive from Domodova Airport through solid traffic full of "bling"'4*4 Porche Cayennes we arrived at this Stalinistic block off a main highway. Impressive Cold War feel but rooms tired and the restauarnt shut due to wedding! we had to sat at bar cafe watching the strippers arrive for the Lap Bar downstairs!! Overall a real... More

Rates are good for an expensive city like Moscow. If you go in summer make sure to contact the hotel for a room with air conditioner - these are more expensive but worthy. Buffet breakfast is varied and pretty good. Location isn't great. Metro is about 5-7 minutes walk from hotel through an sketchy area. Red Square and Kremlin are... More

It has lost some of its charm since they redecorated a few years back. The huge oil paintings in the guest rooms had disappeared but the long, red-carpeted corridors, sweeping staircases and striking chandeliers remained. There is something quite nostalgic about the Sovietsky and I enjoyed my large, old-fashioned room as it reminded me of Soviet VIP comfort from the... More

The inside of the Sovietsky is indeed grand and historical. The only good thing about this hotel was that we could boast we'd stayed in the same place as some very famous people. The hotel is extremely dated, not only in decor, but also structurally. The staff is highly disorganized, and the food below par. On arrival we were immediately... More
