We were doing a three day trip to Sandoval lake, coming from Australia we were excited to see some jungle and a bit of Amazonia.we had large suitcases, which we had to leave at the office in port Maldonado.wevwere given small bags to put what we needed for our three days, we went in winter, so we did not have any... We just returned from a 3 night stay and it was wonderful. For those that complain about the arduous journey in, we found it to the part of the excitement. You really feel like you're deep in the jungle. We had a porter (Simon) who carried everything we needed for our stay and he did the hike in flip flops!... More

We were three friends looking for a fun escape in the Amazon before we set out to Machu Picchu in late December. We are variously adventure/ nature/ animal lovers, so we wanted to visit a lake in the Amazon that would offer trails and safaris and river otters. We chose the Sandoval Lake Lodge after a little bit of focused... More

First of all, I LOVE the Amazon. However, having been to several lodges throughout the Amazon region (1 near Iquitos and the other close to Puerto Maldonado) I would rank this as my least favorite of the three. Unless this is your only option for whatever reason (in which case, go for it; it's better than not going at all),... More

I had read the various reviews about how rustic this lodge is and found all those descriptions to be accurate. The trek to get to the lodge is difficult. We were unfortunate enough to stay there for 2 nights while a cold front dropped temperatures and brought steady rain. We were able to go on the canoe ride around the... More

This is not a deluxe accommodation, but it's a fantastic place to experience the forest, the lake, and the abundant life throughout. Rooms are well-ventilated with good screens and mosquito nets over the beds, ceiling fans that work when the generators are running (e.g. in the heat of the day and a couple of hours in the evening and early... While in writing this I am worried that I was part of the loud American family referenced in one of the earlier reviews, I have to agree with fellow reviewers about the worryingly long and intimidating trek to get to Sandoval. The guides seemed relatively unfazed about the muddy trail leading to our lodge and the two hours it took... More

The lodge itself was very nice - lovely wooden floors (permanently polished by staff), agreeably large, airy and light main building, rooms were very good. The food was good, given the location. As other reviewers comment, the rooms are open at the top, hence noisy neighbours could be a problem. We had a rather large and noisy US family at... More

I should have written this review a long time ago, but I kind of forgot. My mom and I spend about 10 days in Peru and started off with 3 days in the Amazon. Our flight didn't arrive in Puerto Maldonado until the afternoon, so when the van and 3 young men picked us up at the airport, they emphasized... More
