Silver Lake is perfection - the cleanest, most clear lake I have ever seen. The Douglas Resort and Campground is the exact opposite. Leroy Douglas let all the cabins go to waste over the years and any "improvements" were the lowest quality imaginable - for example, picture an addition with foam sealant coming out between every plank of wood and... We were bicycling north of Whiteface and were lucky to stumble upon this place on Sunday, September 2nd as there was nothing else along the route. Doubly lucky as we were told that the restaurant would be closing for the season the next day. Stayed at the Grove cabin and it was a complete dump, not worth paying for. One and a half bathrooms and they couldn't even spring for a door on the second bathroom (they used a sheet!). We stayed at one of the cottages and did not find it worth anything. The location was nice right on silver lake but the accommodation could not have been worse. Basic amenities likes hot water did not work and when we went to complain about it they said we were using too much water though we had not even had... More
