I took a weekend trip to Melia Panama Canal and it was dissapointing to say the least!. We book the "Servicio Real" Suites with private check-in/out, exclusive lounge, butler service, welcome amenity, pillow menu, open bar (6pm to 8pm) exclusive for Royal Service guests and found nothing of that!. What a rip off!!! There was no air conditioner on the... more

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay at the Melia but there isn't much to do in the area. Colon is pretty third-world and the roads are extremely dangerous. We were scared every time we left the hotel to venture out on the roads. The lake is beautiful and Gatun Locks is just down the road. The hotel itself is... more

The building and grounds of the hotel are pretty nice but there is not much to do/see after you've been to the Gatun Locks of the Panama Canal. Housekeeping does a good job of keeping the sleeping rooms/bathroom clean and in good shape. The buffet is US$20.00 and is OK for two/three days but boring after that. I found the... more

The hotel itself is very nice, but the service is below average. No one was helpful during the five whole days we stayed. Weekends seemed like the time to come, because the food seemed to be the best on sat. and sun. They bus in Royal Carribean cruisers on Sundays, so the hotel is jammed packed with people and take... more

My boyfriend and I went there looking for relax and with no recommendations, but it was just what we were looking for! I highly recommend the Royal Service, the entire time the service was excellent, friendly and helpful. The hotel had excellent views, and the hammocks in the pool area were defenilty a plus! You also have different tours and... more

Hotel with a breath-taking view! If you want to get away from it all, this is the hotel to stay at. It is very colonial, and picturesque, with a beautiful view of the lake. I love the bathroom with its mosaic tiles on the wall. and the overall scenery around this hotel. You can sit in one of the cabanas,... more

We have stayed at the Meliá many times, and it seems like we have been extremely lucky! The only negative I have is the so-so food and service from the restaurant. We know people in Colón, so we can eat there, and get our laundry done cheaply as well. We have enjoyed great, attentive service at the main bar, even... more

Before you book at the Melia, check into their reservation policy. I tried on two different occasions to book rooms only to discover that they will not allow a family of 4 with children older than 12 to stay in one room. I tried the second time because I was just so certain the reservationist was wrong. Well, nope. The... more

I really loved this hotel! What made it so good for me? The pool, plenty sun (at that time) and not too much people around. I really didn't care about my room as i only slept there as little as possible. The rooms were ok. Maybe people staying there longer, and in a rainy period, will have different opinions. My... more

We just returned from a week at the Melia. We were staying at this hotel because my in-laws own a time share and traded for this property for the week. The natural location is beautiful - surrounded by the rainforest and Gatun Lake - but that does not make up for the tired furnishings, slow and indifferent service, and isolation... more
