We dropped in at Colibri based on a review from another user. The owner was very pleasant and we were able to get two rooms - one for my wife and I, one for our two kids - for $40 US.

The rooms were fairly basic and small - typical of what I've seen in basic Central American hotels. But also like many such hotels, the smell of mildew was very strong. Our kids' room smelled almost like flax seed oil - a very strong mildewy smell. My own pillow had such a strong mildew smell that I couldn't sleep on my side - had to sleep on my back all night. Every time I turned over the smell would wake me up.

The rooms were quiet and secure. There were no problems with noise except for about 15 minutes of loud music a block or two away around 9pm. This soon died down.

In the morning I stepped outside for a few minutes to enjoy the view of the mountains. I guess I had gotten used to the mildew smell, but when I came back in the smell hit me again.

I had made several business trips to Boquete before I finally found this little gem. The other hotels I had stayed in seemed either over priced or, if they did have a reasonable price, it was for one of their low quality rooms. After paying $30 - $80/night, one of the locals told me to check out Colibri Lodging.

When I did, I couldn't believe it... $18/night for clean, well built, quiet, comfortable lodging with a private bath and hot water AND only a 4 minute walk to downtown. It is owned by a native Boquete family and they do little or no advertising which probably explains their low rates. To find it, take a right turn just past the Texaco as you enter Boquete and it's about a block up the road.

For those looking for an exceptional lodging value, I highly reccommend Colibri Lodging for singles, couples, and those traveling with children.
