After 6 days in the desert, we couldn't wait to get to The Secret Garden. We so looked forward to a lovely shower, having laundry done and seeing the ever helpful owners, Peter and his lovely wife. Previous reviews tell of a grumpy and unhelpful couple. I could not disagree more. This is my 3rd visit and each time I... More

We stayed at the Secret garden for two nights over easter. The rooms were lovely, clean and full of character, much like the owners! It seems that a lot has been written about them and, although sometimes overbearing, they were helpful and informative about everything we needed and asked for during our stay. There was secure parking for cars, hot... More

We had a really good few days staying here. Little touches like the home made cookies on the tea tray were delightful. We enjoyed the tranquil garden and the delicious breakfasts. We followed all the advice given by the helpful staff and were very glad that we did. Highly recommended. More

The staff here are very helpful, offering informed advice on places to visit. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfasts excellent and the bistro is delightful. We were made very welcome and I recommend this guest house to any visitors to Swakopmund. More

We might be naive because there are better offerings in Swakop, but not likely. The owners, the staff, the enviroment, the rooms, etc. all make this place a hidden gem. We were passing through from Rostok for a brief cool stop by the sea before heading to Etosha and we were surprised that (as Canadians) you could get so much... More

I stayed as part of a 4 person group for 4 nights in November this year. We had some concerns given the negative reviews on this site, but found it an excellent place to stay. The hosts were particularly helpful in organising all the activities we were interested in; horse riding, sand boarding, shark fishing etc. I suspect some of... More

It's unfortunate reading some of the other reviews, for our own experience was thoroughly pleasant. The owners were helpful and attentive and the rooms in this quiet retreat were very comfortable. Swakopmund is not exactly a budget resort, but the Secret Garden was very good value. The Bistro was a great place to eat. We'd stay there again any time. More

In spite of postings commenting on the inhospitable inn keepers, we decided to brave a night at the Secret Garden. Our experience couldn't have been better. The owner we'd been warned about proved to be an absolute charmer - fun, helpful, gregarious. The location is minutes from the water and not much farther to the centre of town. Rooms are... More

On first impressions, we liked it - we were shown around by a friendly receptionist, and all seemed good. Things started going wrong however when we met the owners - they were rude to staff and guests. Our tour guides (black) were very obviously treated differently (they tried to move them and deny them breakfast; the receptionist who had checked... More

We find the comments of this review unfare for the following reasons: * The receptionist was reprimanded for allowcating the tour guides the best room ( even though there was a rooming list and the room had been allocated to the parents of the group) * She walked out on us a week after the guests had been there -... Our family of 8 stayed here recently for 3 nights. The Guest house itself is pleasant, clean and set round a courtyard garden. However the owners are something else, unfriendly, overbearing and one more than one occasion downright rude. Not only to us but they also treated our local guide and his assistant badly, we were shocked at their attitude... More

* refer to comments by same group above. * the only incident with the guides was that they washed the muddy bus in the parking area without asking and wasted water which had to be cleaned up by our staff. * we have a tip box and money is shared by all staff to ensure that everyone gets an equal...
