Although I had to change my 8p dorm for a 3p dorm, this place is a nice and relaxing place. Just 5min walking from the beach. I was here last March and it was quite chilly in the evening (had to wear long sleeves and a pully). The 8pdorm is new and almost like a boutique hotel! The bathroom is... More

Betsy, the owner, is a friendly lady and the dorm rooms are clean and cheap. The kitchen is well equiped and the tv room is nice. However, I didn't like having to pay a day fee for just storing my bags after checking out and paying extra for using the wifi.

From the wonderful welcome on arrival to checking out after 2 nights - we had not one complaint. We were two couples staying in 2 en-suite rooms. Great value for money for both. The beds were comfortable and clean. Towels and hot water plentiful. Lovely garden to sit in. Walking distance to the centre of town and the beach. Based... More

Planned on staying here for 5 days, ended up extending by another 4 days! The facilities are good and the staff are really helpful and nice. It's a backpackers which offers camping on nice green grass (a blessing after camping on stones and dirt for 2 weeks solid!) The thing that was really the best about Desert Sky Backpackers was... If not for the reception lady (there are several, so I'm trying to be fair), this place would have been really wonderful. The facilities, the location, the people you meet there, are all great. Therefore it's a pitty that the 'lady of the house' (or is she?) can act so inpatiant and very close to rude. Spent there only two... More

Dorm rooms, bathrooms and kitchen were clean and welcoming. Top notch backpackers. Walking distance to all amenities. Lovely reception from staff. What more can one expect from a backpackers? Once our key to the front gate didn't work when we came home late and had to wake up the owner, she didn't yell at us. In fact, she was pretty... More

Backpacking around Africa for 5 months with my girlfriend and stayed here in November 2011. Absolutely wonderful after just having roughed it in Namibia's north. A lovely relaxing garden with lounge chairs & wooden picnic tables to relax/eat, braai (bbq) sets we could use, big clean kitchens (one for the people staying in the double rooms, one for the people... Not a lot to criticse in the place itself - good standard of rooms, bathrooms, kitchen etc. Only criticism would be the price - which I think puts it a little out of the range of some backpackers, despite that being the main group its pitching for.

HI Very sorry that you feel we are over priced. We have clean rooms with very good matttresses, down douvettes and towels in the rooms. Ablution facilities are clean with plenty of hot water. Kitchens are fully equiped and there are barbeque facilities and safe parking. We also have tea, coffe, milk and sugar available in the kitchen all day.... More

We stayed here after 4 nights in Etosha and it was great to have a place for a hot shower, clean bed, laundry service, and free coffee all day. There is secure parking and it's an easy walk to anywhere in central Swakop, including some good pubs and restaurants. Staff is helpful in finding things and will book activities for... More
