Stayed here for my honeymoon in 2004. Wanted a holiday of a lifetime and that's exactly what we got. The island was beautiful, despite a mix up over rooms when we arrived. However, I can imagine that if your room was near the more corally part of the beach, it could be disappointing. The food in the restaurant was out... more

Myself and partner have travelled to the maldives several times, and are now quite experienced in knowing what we both look for in an island - namely a little smaller and quieter with some good nearby diving. With this is mind we opted for Velavaru. The island must be decribed as one of the most naturally stunning, however in concert... more

We (myself, partner and two children aged 10 and 13) had a lovely holiday on this island though we did have some problems. The island was beautiful, part of its beauty being its simplicity. No entertainment, fancy swimming pools etc just sun, white sand, palm trees and the lovely warm turquoise sea. We booked this holiday before the building/no building... more

We have just come back from Velavaru Island in the Maldives. It is a very pretty island and not manufactured like I believe some of the other islands would be. It is probably more suitable for couples than families, as there is no pool and limited facilities. It is due to be taken over by the Banyan tree in the... more

Found paradise - have just returned after two wondeful weeks on this island. We found the staff all very helpful, and this was helped by the occasional tipping; which we did as we went along. It is recommended that you tip the room boy $10-$15 per week, the lad who takes the cases to your room $3 and your waiter... more

We do not go to the maldives for 5* luxary but to enjoy the tranquility and the natural beauty the maldives has to offer and Velavaru did not let us down. The rooms were very clean and well serviced but beginning to show their age. The restaurant and bar had inside and outside seating with sand flooring so no shoes... more

We visited this Island in November and experienced mixed weather for that time of year (6 days of rain out of 10). There was also a massive amount of Jelly fish at this time of year but only really on one side of the island. We stayed in a Deluxe beach bungalow which was nicely decorated and clean, the staff... more

It is definitely not a 5-star resort, neither does it provide the luxrious atmosphere. To sum it up: a quiet beauiful island to do absolutely nothing! Just to provide a few points for the benefit of all: The bangalow: nice, spacious but relatively no-frills, we enjoyed it Service: good service all-in-all, especially at the restaurant Food: excellent! We truly enjoy... more

lovely relaxing informal island. Attentive staff and perfect bungalow accommodation. Nothing much to do but perfect for a peaceful break away from it all. more

Been back in the UK now for 2 weeks and still i'm buzzing about our time on Velavaru. We had 2 weeks in room 122 and had a fantastic time. We spent 2 weeks last year on Meeru in the north and had high expectations. We were not disapointed. The Island is beautiful and from our room we had great... more
