I chose this place based on Lonely Planet reviews, the fact we were doing a longhouse tour with Uncle Tan's outfit, and that we usually stay in less expensive, non-chain hotels. My husband and I stayed at the Teland Usan for 7 days in August 2005 and were very pleased. The rooms are simple and dated, but everything was clean, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the location is very convenient and the breakfasts were delicious. To add to that, the rates were very reasonable. I definitely recommend this place. more

I took the recommendation from the (usually trustworthy) Lonely Planet guide, which emphasised the 'local Ulu' management and decoration. However, the reality is this is a somewhat down-at-heels hotel, somewhat far-removed from the majority of the other hotels in town.
