Prepare to climb: the rooms are two or three flights up a narrow staircase, with the reception on the first floor. Reception is bright and airy with sofas, internet, and Borneo information. We were a party of 3 and when we checked in the first night, we were given the room 3F, which is next to the bathroom. That in itself is no problem, but the room has the only window facing the bathroom with a very thin curtain, so every time we were woken up by fellow guests using the bathroom.... more

The Step-In lodge is conveniently located near to the waterfront restaurants and shops. We booked a private twin room on two separate occasions and got a four-bedded bunk room to ourselves both times. I wanted to stay somewhere cheap but quiet, but also close to town... the usual conflicting demands - and this little gem really met that.
