I recently went to Gayana Eco Resort for an inspection and see that much of the old structure has been taken down such as the Open Sea Swimming Pool and has been replace by a new pool near the restaurant. A spa is also coming up as I heard from the management and a newly renovated Seafood Restaurant. The conservation... more
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in June 2007. We had been warned that renovations were taking place but we decided to go anyway. We were so glad we did. We stayed in a newly refurbished chalet over the sea - I think we were the first people to have stayed in this particular chalet. The chalets... more
Accomodation is very basic, the furniture in the rooms need to be replaced and the resort could do with a total refurbishment. We still enjoyed our overnight stay, my son had a couple of scuba lesson, the food in the restaurant was was really nice. There was a walk through the jungle on the island that would take about 4hours, watch... more
Gayana Island Resort was a dissapointment. The reason our stay here wasn't a positive one was that the hotel lacked a stretch of beach or place to swim and relax. My girlfriend and I felt 'stuck' at the resort with nowhere but the spartan and dilapitated room to lounge. As the ferry from KK neared the resort and it came... more
Had the pleasure of a stay in Gayana for 3 nights in October. This was one of the first places to stay that lept out of me when I was planning our trip to Borneo. Website made the place out to be luxurious - although the photos gave it an oddly hazy feel. A quality of light caused by the... more
2nd trip to Gayana and the good news is that it is being very nicely renovated. The new rooms overlooking the sea are a real delight. Not 5 star but very good quality 3 star - clean, roomy and comfortable. Gayana also has access to 2 private beaches, both only a walk away or you can take a boat or... more
we have just returned from a fortnight in borneo, the first week we did a tour with wildlife expedtions, this was amazing, very informative guide, 'Charlie' stayed at different lodge's, from kinabalu park right across to sukau and tunku rahman park..we returned to kota kinabalu and stayed at Gayana Resort on the island of gaya, lovely staff but the resort... more
It's a beautiful and quiet island. I lived in a wooden house facing to the sea. The room is big enough for a family with 3 or 4 people. Except for the old washroom device and some ants in the washroom, everything is good. It is really wonderful to sit on the balcony, watching the sea, the fish and the... more
Not a 5-star resort but gorgeous location. Rooms are over the water, with fishes and sea creatures under your balcony. Request for a room facing the sea. Meals are pretty bland (the buffet breakfast menu did not change). Note that swimming beaches are not close by. You will need to hire a boat or take the scheduled boat to the... more
