3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013 NEW

Stayed here for a few days at the end of our holiday in Borneo (when we did various wildlife viewing trips). The resort is typical of the Shangri La set-up in many ways- rooms large and new-looking and spotlessly clean, resort has many facillities and is very manicured and tidy, including a number of bars and various different dining options... Chose this hotel for location, only 10 mins from airport and Kinabalu town. On arrival we decided to upgrade to the club lounge and found this to be well worth the extra as drinks, canapés and snacks were included at certain times of the day. The infinity pool was just beautiful overlooking the South China Sea. The resort also has... More

Shangri-la Tanjung Aru I had two stays at Shangri-la Tanjung Aru. The first was for 4 nights, prior to a trip to Labuan Island. The second was for 2 nights before a trip to Sandakan and Selingan (Turtle Island). See other reviews for these trips. As I am a Shangri-la Golden Circle member, for both stays, check in was via... This was our second visit to the ShangrI-La's Tanjung Aru, I must admit I was very disappointed to find the pool was closed for maintenance as this was one of the reasons we chose to stay at the resort again (I do understand that maintenace does need to be done). Was offered dining credit and free island trips. We stayed... More

2 nights, 1 bedroom suite, Horizon Club This resort hotel is a pleasant experience, with all the niceties one expects at a SL Hotel. Note SL resort hotels are typically not as luxurious as their city-based counterparts, however this is probably the best one I have stayed in so far. The suite was extremely spacious, with two bathrooms, showers in... More

The perfect place to relax. I stayed here with the girls from my work and the 3 of us had a wonderful time. The first thing I noticed was that the lobby area had a fantastically calming vibe, a beautiful smell of fresh flowers and was perfectly clean. I found the pool area to be incredibly relaxing, although I found... More

This is a huge resort, with fabulous facilities. The beach however, is tiny, probably man-made, with loungers available. There were plenty of staff around the beach area, 3 lifeguards, staff from the restaurants uncovering chairs etc and those working in the beach bar and although I saw them rake the sand, it was still covered in twigs and sticks. Given... More

Well, it didn't start off well, we arrived with our 2 young children to find out the pools were all out of action due to renovations, so I was supremely ticked off! Feezah, the duty manager was amazing and really looked after us, the staff took such genuine interest in the children and we actually forgot all about the pool... More

Have to say that this was probably the badest choice of hotel I made throughout my SEA travelling. First I found check-in staff and guest relastions pretty arrogant. Other staff is very friendly though. The beach is very small and there were empty glasses, trash and cigarettes everywhere. Other facilities were clean though. The beds in the rooms are very... More

We stayed here October last year and absolutely loved it. The hotel was beautiful, we were in the refurbished wing with fantastic views of the ocean. The food here is great and very reasonably priced. The staff were prompt, friendly and very courteous. The water slides kept our children entertained all day. Without a doubt one of our better holidays... More
