We did our climb last March 15, 2014 and it was raining all throughout the day so imagine our relief upon finally reaching Laban Rata. The lodging offers simple dormitory beds and warm buffet-style meals at 11,000 feet. Once you think about the logistics of pulling this off, and actually witness porters carrying food supplies and cooking gas tanks on... More

After the frustration felt by all about having to shell out such a fee for simple lodgings to achieve the climb it is a RELIEF that the accommodation and food is pretty decent. There is plenty of food, more than enough, and all very fresh and cooked on site. Huge vats of local coffee are popular with everyone. The view... More

I climbed up Mt. Kinabalu and reached Low's peak with 4 friends in early March 2014. During our climbing trip, we stayed at Gunting Lagadan, the side building of Laban Rata. As the only hotel operator in the mountain, Laban Rata and the few buildings enjoy monopoly. We all went to the G/F of Laban Rata for food. I stayed... More

This lodge is operated by the same people who run the 5 star Sutera Harbour hotel. I stayed in 8 bed (4 bunk) dorm and was very satisfied. The dorm had its own bathroom with a private toilet and shower. Towels, soap, shampoo, toothbrush and other toiletries were provided. We arrived at the lodge right before dinner time and the... More

We booked our Kinabalu trek well in advance and direct through Sutera office in KK (I highly recommend doing this if you don't want to get ripped off by agents such as Amazing Borneo!) When we arrived at Laban Rata we were told we had our own room (yesss!) which we were not expecting. The room was clean, spacious and... More

It's ok because you're only there one night and it's really you're only option while climbing Mt Kinabalu. You appreciate it because you'll be wet and cold and relieved when you arrive but really it's pretty average accommodation. The food is good and there's a lot of it, good variety and unlimited tea and coffee! The rooms are average squeeky... More

After a tiring hike (at least for me) we was hoping for a hot shower and a fulfilling dinner. Am not asking for more, just hoping that perhaps the restaurant could extend the dinner time to maybe 8pm or put some food in the fridge for those who couldn't make it before 730pm (SINCE WE"VE PAID FOR IT?) and where... Like the others we had to stay at Laban rata which was one of the only lodging places provided by them. Luckily we only had to stay for half a night because we had to start hiking by 2.30am. The beds are rickety and squeaky. I couldn't sleep much because I had to consciously watch how I turn in my... More

If you're staying at Laban Rata, you're not staying there because you're excited about the lodging -- you're staying there because it's the only option and it's at the top of Mt. Kinabalu. We actually got put up at Gunting Lagadan Hut, one of the outbuildings next to Laban Rata. The place was, quite honestly, a pit. My wife and... More

The views from the summit are incredible, but the dorm room accommodation is terrible an absolute deal breaker. The tiny dorm rooms contain two rickety bunk beds and nothing else. If you stay in a dorm you will not get any sleep (& then you'll be doing an 11km hike already tired) your bed will be shaking and you will... More
