The hotel is great value for the cost. It is close to the centre of town and is in walking distance to the bus terminal and many great eating places. The Red Garden was only 5 minutes walk away as well. Our room was clean and comfortable. Although it was a little noisy early in the morning with a mosque... More

"What are you up to now?" "Looking for lodgings." I answered. "Trying to solve the problem as to whether it is possible to get comfortable rooms at a reasonable price." "That's a strange thing," remarked my companion; "you are the second man today that has used that expression to me." - A Study In Scarlet That excerpt from Arthur Conan... More

we enjoyed our stay here. Rooms and bathrooms are clean. It's a heritage building, with character. As with small guesthouses like this, sounds carried across the building, but was not a major issue for us. Most of the staff are friendly/helpful. Budget friendly as well. Price/quality ratio is good.

The room was not clean and there were cockroaches in our bed!! We arrived yesterday at noon and we were welcomed by a very unfriendly woman. We thaught that she maybe had had a bad sleep and we went to our room. We found a room that was not very clean. Dust everywhere and cobwebs everywhere. However, as we are... More

Sadly, the Chulia Room we stayed in was not even worth the RM160 'promotional rate' we paid via Agoda. We mistook this place to be a boutique-style hotel, but were shocked and disappointed to discover a room that looked and felt more like a budget hotel - and we've stayed in enough budget hotels, and boutique heritage hotels, to know... Unique hôtel, full of character. Perfectly located in heart of China town and with very welcoming staff team - from the welcome at reception ( even though our arrival was MUCH later than planned) to the delightful man who does the laundry.

We stayed three nights in December 2013 - highlights - staff was very friendly, decent breakfast, large room, great shower. On the average side - fridge worked intermittently, room was a bit dark, and we did hear the mosque (though I always sleep with earplugs, so less of an issue). Great base for Penang, though, and we hope to go... More

Loved the place and its location, but not its neighbor (a mosque). The room was clean and adequate for a single person. It came with water, a boiling kettle, coffee&tea, a toothbrush and shower cap. Shampoo/soap was in a dispenser affixed to the wall. My room (#208) had an aircon and a ceiling fan. They didn't turn down the beds... More

This is a nice charming place. 5 - 10 minutes walk from the heritage area centre, but at the same time away from the hustle and bustle and noise. It is also close to KOMTAR, the main bus terminal in the area. There are many eating options nearby. The staff went out of the way to make my stay pleasant.... More

Expected the basics at this Hotel and that is what you get. Room - comfortable, some may find the mattress a bit hard but we had no problem with it, air conditioning was good, room was clean, bathroom/toilet in one small place. There is a mosque nearby and call to prayer is about 5.30am and you will hear it after... More
