Stayed in roommates last week with 3 other friends. First of, great location, in between major roads like Penang road and Beach Street. Bus stops are minutes away too. If you're on budget, busses in Penang are pretty good, you just have to study the maps a little in advance ;) The beds are super clean and bigg (Premier ones)... More

This place is very clean and within walking distance from ferry terminal, information centre and bus stops. The computers downstairs are ok, but the one furthest away from the front door works the best. Best to book ahead for this hostel as it gets booked out even in the low season. I showed them a brochure of rates stating 25... More

This hostel has a perfect location just near little India. It is a small but cozy hostel and an excellent hostel for solo travellers. I liked the music in the common area which is perfect to meet other travellers. The bathrooms are medium clean but this is a consequence of the guests as they are cleaned every day. But i... More

I've read the good comments so I reserved the beds like a month prior. After reading FishFlies' review on they putting him to another hostel, I thought it was just a accidental case. But still, as I would arrive Penang at middle of the night (which I've mentioned that on my booking), I reconfirmed with Roommates on FB 2 days... More

I don't usually go out of my way to write a review for somewhere, but this exception to the norm can be more than justified when i think of how much these people have gone out of their way to help me out during my stay at Roomates. The quality of accomodation and vibrant atmosphere of this hostel is truely... More

Arrived in Georgetown somewhat by chance, had to spend the night and staying here made me like Penang way more. The people who run it started talking to me on the street, followed them to Roommates and had a great time. Super safe, clean, free wifi, gave us some free ice cream because it was hot out, good crowd of... More

The smallest guest house in Penang is a very comfy and good decorated placed based in the center of the Chinese part of George Town in Penang, it's like the same price as the dirties hotels in town with a better value on the cleanness, and the staff is really kind and enjoyfull

WHERE ARE THEY? Roommates Penang is located in the central of Georgetown, in one of the smaller alleys (lorong in malay) from backpacker central (Chulia Street). The hostel is within walking distance to all the tourist attractions, morning market and Penang's renowned hawker food. GETTING THERE: There are regular air conditioned Rapid Penang busses servicing Penang island. If you are... More

I intended to stay for just two nights but end up extending my trip for three extra nights. I found there was a lot of really fun things to do around the town area and spent full days at the beach up in Batu Ferringhi jet skiing, taking a jungle walk to a secluded beach up in Teluk Bahang and... I booked over online booking system weeks before arrival. It turned out they overbooked for the day I checked in and placed me at another nearby guesthouse. The dorm room in this other guesthouse wasn't any better, it's windowless and the space's very tight. I wasn't please about this, and I insisted Roommates Penang was what I booked (according to... Dear Guest. Thank you for taking the time to comment and give us feed back. Its most valuable to us. Yes, we have had some problems with our booking system, and had a few over bookings. Each time we have one, we have a heart attack and smack our heads silly for making mistakes like that. We are truly sorry... More

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!! :D We hope to having and seeing you real soon!Roommates Penang Guesthouse is housed in an 18th century refurbished ‘Straits Eclectic’ prewar shop lot centrally located within the core Heritage Zone of Georgetown, Penang. We are within walking distance to famous hawker food stalls like Chulia Street, Kimberly Street, shopping malls like Komtar, Prangin Mall and 1st Avenue as well as morning markets like Chowrasta Market. All the ‘MUST SEE’ Heritage attractions within Penang are located around the guesthouse and can be easily explored by foot or by bicycle. We also offer bicycles for rent for the convenience of our guests. Roommates Penang is definitely the ‘smallest’, ‘newest’ and ‘funnest’ (we made this word up!) guesthouse on the island. Although the exterior and certain sections of the guesthouse still retains its prewar features, we did cracked our brains to come up with a simplistic yet modern interior so that you can fully enjoy an open concept guesthouse that only has a land space of 530 ft2. ... more   less
