We had room number 8 (double room) and it stank! We don't know if it was the A/C but there was a horrible smell anytime we went in. Also no window, the blanket looked like it hadn't been washed in a long time, the pillows were just plops of foram inside a sheet and I am pretty sure there were bed bugs. There... More

We had a private room for 2 nights, which has a decent size. But the smell in there was kinda gross (no window). Shared bathroom was OK. Staff was nice, gave us some good advice regarding restaurants. Also bought a bus ticket to Cameron Highlands there, which was a ripoff. Charged way more than it should have cost us for... More

Great place with clean and tidy rooms, comfy beds, good location surrounded by good local food, and within walking distance of the Jetty and local bus station where you can get a ride to the airport for just MYR $ 2.7 The staff is very attentive, friendly and helpful.

Due to delays at the Thai Malaysian border, we arrived at Cocoa Mews after 11pm and were greeted by one of the friendliest hostel staff I have ever encountered. It was late and we were hungry and check in was quick. Staff member even offered to lend us money to get some food for dinner as we had no cash.... More

Actually, this was a nice place and very nice staff. I felt really welcome here and they are very glad to help you on all sorts of maps and whatsoever. For a room in the centre it's not too expensive and the wifi works fine. Shower and toilets are clean. The room is okay, nothing special. It has ac and... More

There are plenty of backpacker places in Penang, but only Cocoa Mews combines a nice heritage location, friendly and fun staff who give you heaps of info on everything, along with great value for money. Penang is, of course, a food paradise. The staff at Cocoa Mews are madly passionate about Penang's great cuisine, and will tell you exactly where... More

Already been there twice for couple of days, the staff is Very friendly! They know very well the city, where to find what, they even brought me by car to take picture for my visa. Good location in little India, full of nice/cheap/tasty indian food, pretty quiet. I stayed in the dorm, wich for the price is very clean and... More

Located in the heart of Little India, this cute hostel is the perfect accommodation for someone who looks for value for money! The friendly and helpful staff could recommend me what kind of delicious food I can buy on the streetsmarkets around the are. Also accommodation on Langkawi and the Cameron Highlands was referred to me. I booked my transfers... More

This guesthose has raving reviews. And yes, the service is very friendly - even distressingly eager (I'm a finn so used to take care of myself by myself, search internet for good places to eat, what to see, etc. - it's totally odd that someone totally strange tries to tell me which are good places for me) - and toilets... Smack dab in Little India, Cocoa Mews is unique in that it's a budget guest house, but not entrenched in a "Kao San Road"-like party/blaring reggae/hippy enclave like Chulia Street. There's no cafe or bar attached, so you'll have to go do your boozing elsewhere. However, you're minutes from most of the cultural attractions, the hawker stalls, banana leaf restaurants,... More
