For $20 a night you dont expect a clean room with 15 foot ceilings. But at Chulia you get al that. Its bare and basic but the massive ceilings and windows make a delightful stay. The shared bathroom was weird but fine for the adventurous.

This place is a great budget option, particularly if you opt for a budget room with shared facilities. The building and rooms are old, high-ceilinged and airy, all done out in white throughout. We stayed in a budget family room with 2 big doubles and were very happy with it. Good quality towels are provided, TV (with decent movie channels),... More

Main concern for budget stay would be the cleanliness and comfortability of the room apart from the rate issue. If so, this hotel would be near to a perfect match to budget travellers. I personally stayed at this hotel November last year. It was my first time staying at a shared-bathroom hotel and to my surprise, it was clean and... More

Great location in central Georgetown and good security. But noisy + tiny shared bathrooms that constantly ponding with water and dampness and way too small. Wall are thin, so noise travels easily. Large floor surfaces are tiled so noise echoes easily on both floors. Some guests/cultures are especially loud-speaking and lack consideration. Bedrooms are white and clean - very basic,... More

Good location to enjoy night streetfood or go around in Penang. Nice and helpful staffs. Beautiful hotel decoration. You can ask staff and buy bus ticket to KL. Really enjoy staying here in awesome Penang.

Hotel is located in Lebuh Chulia and easily accessible. Rooms are clean. It is within walking distance to Penang Road, Armenian Street, & Kimberley street, thus plenty of good street food. You just need to be adventurous & explore. As it's an old mansion with wooden floor boards, it can be noisy for light sleepers. However this is only a... More

There are issues with this hotel mostly to do with noise as others have said but it was only really bad for us on the Saturday night of our four night stay. And I really think some blame for this should lie with the rude, inconsiderate hotel guests who know it is noisy and yet go on making noise anyway.... More

This place is an old colonial era building which has been converted and renovated to modern standards. We stayed in a double room. The plus points: Smack in town in the heritage area, car parking available, modern amenities (wifi, en-suite, satellite tv), clean, well-maintained, friendly staff. The minus points: small room with no window, limited car parking, limited facilities In... More

Hotel is very nice, perfect colonial style! Unfortunatly the room we get, not only was supposed to have a window while it was a window on the internal corridor...is was so small but so small that there was 50cm beteween bed and wall in both sides. The toilette was nice tough.

We booked a triple room but when we was checking in the women on reception said they were upgrading for no extra cost.the room it's self was really big and spacious and... More
